It's weird how you've not put up a thread over the last while detailing your losses.
That's because a) I haven't been going to casinos in a while. b) I rarely lose money. Losing is for losers. That's why they call them losers, loser.

You just haven't gambled enough.  One night I won $2GZ playing blackjack and I thought I was the shit, thought I had a good system, etc.  Then a few years later I lost nearly a grand in one night playing blackjack.  Thats when I realized why casinos make so much money.  The odds are always in favor of the house.  If they weren't you would see wayyyyyyyy more casino's going bankrupt, and way more people getting rich off gambling.  You make it sound as if you have perfected playing blackjack down to a science which you have mastered.  If it were that simple, you would have way more smart people gambling and getting rich.  The bottom line is that when playing blackjack, you rely more on luck than anything else.  Yes, you can better your odds by making smart moves and knowing when to hit, and what not, or if you are really good, by making calculations in your head.  But luck always will play more of a role than skill when it comes to 99% of players playing blackjack.  You may be one of those 1% where it doesn't, but I would take the bet anyday that you will go broke over gambling before you become rich and can quit your day job.

I start at the Blackjack tables with $20 bucks... Once I lose that, I walk away. I hate losing my money on gambling.

I don't know if it's considered "long enough", but I've been gambling for close to 10 months now. I've lost big hands and I've one bigger ones. In the end I've always ended up winning more then I lose though. I sure as hell hope I'm in that 1%, but I'm not counting on it. And you can gain an edge over the house if you card count (don't start about how its illegal, cause that is lie casinos like to cultivate). Anyways I haven't learned that (yet), but the biggest obstacle I see to people gaining money at casinos is that they don't know when to quit. I see lots of people win money then lose it all because they couldn't walk out the door. Greed is a mother fucker.

There is all kinds of ways that you can gain an edge...but still there is a lot that is completely out of your hands.  First off, you can't help what the other people at the table do.  Second off, no matter how smart you are, no matter what calculations you have done, no matter how well you can count cards, you never know the dealers card that is face down...and unless you have blackjack (which is pure luck) then you always have a chance of losing, because you can never know 100% of the time what that dealers card is.  If you win a big hand, say, $1000, you had to put up that bet before you knew anything.  Before you knew what cards you have, before you saw the one card of the dealer, before you saw the other players cards.  Since you had that to make that bet before you knew any of that, that in itself is a ton of luck.  You could get dealt blackjack and win $1500 on that hand, or you could get dealt 14, when the dealer is showing a 10.  What do you do then?  Well, the rule is you should hit.  So you hit and get a face card and bust.  What if you don't hit.  Dealer has way more odds in his favor of beating a 14.  Way too much luck.

Poker is the card game that can rely more on skills than luck.  In blackjack, where you can never be 100% sure what the dealer has, there is plenty of times in poker where you can be 100% sure of what your opponent has.

Like I said, sure there are people that can beat the house, but the odds of being one of those people is so tremendously small, that I would take the bet with anyone, w/o knowing anything about them, that they will go broke before they will go rich when it comes to playing blackjack.  The only time you have come up ahead is if you win, you walk away, and you never play again.  But if you keep playing, you will eventually lose...that is how casino's make money.  Why do you think Vegas does everything in their power to keep people on the floor gambling?  Free drinks, no clocks, air circulating to keep you awake.  If you are winning a shitload of money, why do they comp u all kinds of things like hotel rooms, free shows, etc?  Wouldn't they rather kick you out because you are taking their money?  Nope, they want to keep you as long as possible, because, the odds are in favor of the house, and eventually they will win.

Well there are no guarantees in life. In the example you give, that is the exact reason you don't bet big (relative to your bankroll). Good players are only betting that they win more hands then they lose (which technically you don't need to do if you double and split). One hand means very little if you are playing for several hours and over several days/weeks/months/years, whatever. As for poker, your right, you leave much less to chance and a lot more to skill. But the reason I like blackjack better is because you are playing against jut one person: the dealer. In poker you are playing against 4-9 players. If you look at it strictly from the perspective, the odds are against you.

go to the casino 5 days in a row.  Play 5 hands of blackjack each day.  Bet the same amount of money on each hand.  Now at the end of the 5th day, I bet you are down.  That shows you just how much the odds are against you, and just how much luck is going to play.  I mean you could play 100 hands all night...99 of those hands you bet $5 a hand...at the end of 99 hands, you are down $300...last hand you bet $500 and win...so for the night you end up ahead by $200...but all due to luck.  do what I said about playing 5 hands 5 days in a row betting the same amount each hand...then you will see how much skill you really have.

There's a 19 year old guy at Barona that does that. I don't see how that's possible. One all in hand and you lose your entire payroll.

you don't gamble your entire payroll, just your winnings

I didn't read the whole thread because I figured there would be a lot of dumb shit in here.
You can't win playing blackjack long term, it's a fact and there is no "system".  There are different variations of blackjack but it is usually the game with the lowest house advantage.

If you want to educate yourself on casino games and gambling: http://wizardofodds.com/

You think you have a "system"?

48 bills, homie. Count it. And I'm moving this to a safer location tomorrow, so don't even think about running up in my house (Sikotic & Kain, I'm looking in your direction).
