Thanks for the hook-up. Not really feeling this though - the whole concept is just too obvious and average. "Gangsta Music"? C'mon...

Thanks for the quick hook-up!

Me being the fan that I am, I have to admit that I've got mixed feelings about this song. After a first listen, the song sounds pretty good: the beat is knocking (thumping bass, nice background effects, etc...) and decent lyrics by Omar. But I don't really know about the chorus. I like it, but I'm not too sure whether this is the type of thing that will appeal to other audiences.

Let's face it: with Omar being on Interscope/Geffen, they're aiming at having good record sales. But I just don't see this song blowing up. I don't think it has enough "catchiness" to it (jeez, I sound like some CEO, lol). It doesn't really make an impact on the listener (at least not after a first spin), whereas Omar & Game's song "Powerhouse" did have that massive impact on me. The beat, the chorus, the overall vibe of the song: that shit was hot.

Just to make it clear: the song is good, it definitely sounds like album material and I'm sure it'll grow on me even more, but for now I don't think it's a wise choice to use this as a first single. Just my opinion...

P.S.: I might add that me personally don't really care about record sales. All I'm really interested in is having a solid album to listen to. But, we all know this: when you're on a major label, there has to be SOME commercial potential in it.

I've spun it like 6-7 times now, and i think it's a great choice as a single.  BYI's stuck in a sticky situation where they need to keep it West Coast to please their fan base, but they need to appeal to the mainstream as well since they're on a major.  This is a good start in my opinion.  Notice how I said "what may quite possibly be the first single"?  This isn't officially the first single just yet.  Regardless, it's a tight ass track!

exactly ... this isnt a type of major label 1st single  AT ALL ... I dont care about sales or you must have club banger too.. but at the end of the day when it comes to Omar, the responses to his 1st single will influence in a BIG WAY Geffen decision to release the lp or not ..

i've edited my post on dubcnn so you guys don't read too far into it, this hasn't officially been announced as the first single, it is definitely going to be getting radio play and it is from the album though. my bad for any confusion.

It's cool, Eddie. You didn't exactly cause any confusion. I had read your initial post correctly (possibly the first single), so I was just saying: IF they do release this as a first single, I don't think it'll do well sales/buzz-wise. But it was a good idea of editing your post on DUBCNN though. I think lots of people would have jumped on a bandwagon where they were like "THIS IS OMAR'S FIRST SINGLE!". ;)

Well...this'll sound funny, but I think I'll have to adjust my opinion about this song already 8) I've bumped it 4 times so far, the last time with the volume of my speakers turned all the way up, and I must say that I'm already digging it more than during the first spin.
Cool & Dre really came correct with this one. Especially that part where Game goes "make the speakers go boom". At that particular part the beat/bass just slams haaard. This'll sound banging on a decent audio set-up for sure.

Other than the beat which is really dope ( I bet Game picked it), everything else is average. Don't know what the big deal about Omar Cruz is, he doesn't seem anything outstanding but I've only heard a song or two from him. Game still needs to step his hook game up, hook sounds forced.

How can you say you don't know what the big deal about Omar Cruz is, when you have only heard two of his songs? Seriously.
Don't get me wrong, just because I am a fan doesn't mean that I expect everyone to dig his music. It's obvious that won't be the case. Music is personal. I'm just saying...at least take the time out to properly judge him, based on his mixtapes. Download "The Cruzifixion" (check Dubcnn's main page, it's there for free), give it a few spins, and then you'll have some more background to give feedback.

You're right about Game's hook though. It's decent, but he can do better than that.

Oh, and that thing about "I bet Game picked the beat". You're wrong about that, bro. I know for a fact that Omar, Rome & LuLu have personally chosen each beat on the album because they want each beat to match their "Latin Soul" sound. Just so you know.

I've heard only 3 songs from himbut most of the time you don't have to hear a lot of songs, to like or dislike someone. For me personally, I'm just not feeling the flow or the voice, however, I'll definetly check some mixtapes from him. And if Omar picekd the beat, more power to him then, Cool N Dre can drop super wack or super dope beats, it all depends on the selection.

yeah you are wrong about Game picking it, good call on that one Crafty!  You should check out the street albums Detox, its definitely a different sound, but i bet you'll feel it after a little time!
