"Dr. Dre Presents...The Aftermath"  Opinions?
« on: April 21, 2001, 02:52:40 PM »
Okay, I'm carrying this topic over to here, which songs did you guys like, or didn't like?  What did you think about the album?

I thought these were good songs...

"The Aftermath Intro"
"East Coast Killaz/West Coast Killaz"
"Shittin On The World"
"Blunt Time"
"Been There Done That"
"Str-8 Gone"
"Sexy Dance"
"Nationowl"
"Fame"

Yea, all those songs are good, nuthing classic though.  The rest of the songs you coyuld fuckin trash.  This album had some sick beats too, "Blunt Time", "Been There Done That" & "Fame".  What do y'all think?

Well they stuck for a little while later.  Mel-Man, Glove, Stu-B-Doo & Bud'da stayed with Dre, same with King Tee.  As it stands right now the only person from that compilation still with Dre is Mel-Man.  I've explained much more in the comentary's section @ WCKILLAZ.  There I have an article about the history of Aftermath, and what happend to all those artists.  Check is out & P'Z!

Glove doesn't produce with Dre anymore, he produced Chico & Coolwada's album just recently.  Bud'da still does stuff, he laced that Snoop song "Trust Me" off "Topp Dogg".  Dre at one point said Stu-B-Doo was gonna be the next big thing that he was working with, last I heard of him was on Ras Kas's album in '98.

I highy doubt that THEY wanted to leave.  a lot of those artists never had a chance before, why would they wan't to throw it away.  Dre said he's like to make a movie of his life, he said he's shopping they script around

I liked most the whole album, but only cause of the sick beats, and a few of the songs mentioned here, this forum...

But "Been There, Done That" is a slept-on classic, more lyrically than anything. It shows a maturing Dre, dropping some of the gangsta veil from the previous 11 years he'd started at WCWC.

Some bailed on Dre...Stu-B-Doo now like does soundtracks for porno movies...Poor bastard...That nigga coulda gone far, he still makes the hot shit, but without Dre, he's little.

Mel-Man's pretty great.

In conclusion, the beats were dope, some of the lyrics were pretty ill, but it was a lukewarm collection overall...Not bad, but hardly classic material overall.

"The Aftermath Intro"
"East Coast Killaz/West Coast Killaz"
"Shittin On The World"
"Blunt Time"
"Been There Done That"

Those are about the only things I still listen to. But that doesn't mean the whole album is bad. I don't think this album was that bad like most people say. The sound on this album was bangin. It just wasn't bangin back in 96. I think it was years away from it's time.
It is far from classic but it ain't bad either. I would give it either 2.5 or 3 out of 5.

The production wasn't bad at all, I think Dre had A LOT of input and control over each track.  Even though he's credited for production on about 7 songs, I think he helped out the rest of the producers.  The only thing was that Glove, Stu-B-Doo, Bud'da & Flossy P ALL SOUNDED THE SAME!  They had no original styles!

I enjoy listening to "Shittin on The World"...But Mel has no lyrical talent, I mean he cant rhyme for shit, it's funny to hear him rhyme...Sorry, but he either should stick to producing or get somone to right his rhymes, but even that wont help because his flow is horible, so I recomend he sticks to producing...I like the song though, it's funny...
