ok, I know you need a condenser mic, a fast computer with a STRONG sound card, and apart from the software, what else do I need ?

you dont need a mixer... but a nice preamp would be good!
and OF COURSE monitor speakers... i have a pair of yamaha hs80 m and i LOVE them
and i use nano patch for passive volume control - its recommended to leave all computer soundcard levels at 0db level

studio headphones are usefull too - but just for details etc.. dont try to mix on them

a masterkeyboard is always usefull

and id definately save my money and not buy a mixer... but that also depends on what you wanna do

Well...you need a good condenser mic...a nice tube pre-amp which takes a while to warm up but the end recording will be much more warmer and have more depth, you need a computer with a more than decent procesor and ram, plus you need an audio card..something simple...a start  audio card like the Fast Track Pro by m-audio which is pretty simple to operate,on top of you have to understand audio recording software like acid,or sonar, ableton live..but i recommend something like sony acid which in my opinion is easier to learn..dont fall for the PRO TOOLS shit..it will only confuse you until you know the functionality of these programs, after gaining knowledge or the recording process (recording clear vocals without distrotion and good levels, good location to record)
you can tackle the task of mixing your own music OR have a person like me to mix your music

OH..and a pre-amp is the pre amplification of a weak signal...in a since..a pre amp gives stregth to the microphone and to the audio card itself so the signal (vocals) can be recorded

thats why a good pre amp is in order..a bad preamp will create bad vocal recording..of mediocre quality

but its all a question of money...

im using a cheap tb202 preamp right now, and i rarely use the built-in compressor, because it sound like crap, software compressors give me WAY better results.. but i guess thats not the final solution yet... ill probably buy a 500-700€ preamp soon.. and itll be worth every penny 8)
