There's one thing I never understood about the beef. Not only did Canibus had to change his verse but LL also dissed him in the same song. But how come Canibus is still in the video, didn't he hear the obvious diss from LL ? Unless LL played him dirty.

Canibus was asked to remove his line, but LL left his in because he thought that no one would learn that it was aimed towards Canibus.  But then LL said people like Trackmasters & Chris Lighty ran their mouth all over NY about the line and hyping it as beef.
LL then suggested said that they should do an underground track together, but then Canibus dissed him on 2nd Round Knockout.

This should clear it up - Leaked telephone conversation between LL and Canibus regarding the beef and verse.

You guys are crazy - LL had already fallen off hard by this point. You ant to hear him spit for real, listen to him between 1984 and 1993.

If you wanna get specific, "Radio" and "Bigger and Deffer" were overall great albums (however B&D saw the birth of LL's love songs w/ "I Need Love").  He began getting overly poppy w/ "Walking Like a Panther".  On the Marley Marl remix of "Jingling Baby", if you really pay attention to LL's lyrics and flows you'll swear to god that Big Daddy Kane wrote that shit, flowed that shit, and then let LL come in and re-record it.  That song is 90% Juice Crew / 10% LL.

Mama Said Knock You Out truly was a comeback for him regardless of his opening line on that joint.  After that, LL was still successful but commercial - but he did have a lot of cats copying his style.  But his shit got way too formulaic and unoriginal.

The Canibus beef (which was sparked when this song was recorded) brought LL back to spittin with some fury on a single for a change.

So to break it down, give me LL from 85-88, 1990/91, and briefly in 1997/98.

Hold up " HEADSPRUNG" , "LUV U BETTER" , Were both big HITS and they were made after 2000 , so how is he not still relevant come on man THATS  UNCLE LL  HOMEBOY !!!!!!!    THE G.O.A.T   -   DONT 8) GET ME STARTED ON LL . 8) 8)

Canibus isn't in the video, and yeah... LL left his because he thought that nobody would know who he was talking about

the Beef II movie explains this entire thing pretty well

Nah he is in the video, he's 1:30 in the video, in the first post.  Thats him right???  I guess its probably added after the initial shooting?

Its interesting that the beef with Eminem stemmed from the beef with LL as he thought Eminem ghostwrote for LL on the Ripper strikes back track.

Great thread...brings back nice memories, I remember the whole incident, hip-hop had started to decline a little by 98... but events like this prove it was still a million times better than it is today.

Does anybody have the origional Canibus verse?   And people were saying they don't remember Canibus in the video but for some reason I did.

There's one thing I never understood about the beef. Not only did Canibus had to change his verse but LL also dissed him in the same song. But how come Canibus is still in the video, didn't he hear the obvious diss from LL ? Unless LL played him dirty.

That phone conversation was ill... props for posting.  Before I had thought it was all kind of a publicity stunt.  Because it set up Canibus' whole album with "Second Round Knockout" which is a classic diss track, one of the best ever.  And, the whole incident earned LL some street cred as an emcee he was able to re-establish some of his credibility with the new generation coming up.  So they both benefited, so I thought that it was all a publicity stunt, but that phone conversation shows it was more real than that.

And there was a rumor about Eminem writing LL's verse for that song, which is possible cause Dre and LL were working on "Zoom" around that time and Em was just coming to Aftermath around that time.... but I still don't believe it.. can anyone confirm whether he did or didn't?  It doesn't sound like something Em would write.

there have been quite a few versions floating around with extended lyrics from LL and Canibus, probably before the song was finalised.  Different beat too.
Here is the version with lyrics Canibus mentioning LL's arm.

No Eminem did not write the verse, here is an interview talking about the whole situation and what happened with Canibus

HOLY FUCK that Can-I-Bus track is insane. I've never heard LL rap like that before. Hard as fuck, he killed Canibus
