Eric B. & Rakim
« on: August 10, 2002, 06:52:09 PM »
I never really listened to Rakim until just recentley.  I went out and bought all of his CD's today.  This may sound like a dumb question, but I don't know much about him.  What happened to Eric B.?

they signed for 4 albums and after it was up they agreed to sign release forms so they could do thier own thing......but they also agreed to do more albums in the futire....rakim signed the release for eric b., but when the favor was supposed to b returned for eric to release for rakim he didnt do it.....eric b felt that by signing a release for rakim he would forget about eric b.....so rakim had contract disputes to worry bout for a minute.....holllllllllllllla back

Oh..is the Book of Life the same as the 18th letter without the 2nd CD?  If it also came out as just a single CD, then I didn't get that either.  It's all still the same though, right?

"The 18th Letter" was the 'new' material and then the 2nd CD was a Greatest Hits comp. You can get the single CD album ("The 18th Letter"), it's available in the UK anyways.

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.

What is this "collection" that you're talking about, anyway? Old school albums or something?

It's a mix of everything...I buy just about anything new that comes out (hip-hop wise), and now that I've got pretty much everything I want, so I'm trying to get some of the older stuff.  I've been collecting CD's for many years, so now I'm trying to buy up every decent rapper's entire catalog.

That_Cracka_J, do you listen to a lot of conscious hip hop? (ATCQ, Mos Def, Kweli, Bahamadia, etc.).

No I don't really like any of them.  I like to hear some bangin' production with some tight lyrics.  That's why I don't really like Xzibit's first two albums...Lyrically they're tight, but I think the production is boring, so can't really get into them.  IMO, a lot of the "conscious" rap has boring production.  Peace.

That_Cracka_J, are there any conscious rappers (or specific conscious CDs) that you think have tight production?
