Racism evident in Cam'ron's music
« on: June 18, 2002, 09:44:55 PM »
I'm shocked y'all... I was recently bumping Cam's new album, and I would have said it was pretty tight. But my opinion changed when I heard these lines from track 4, called "Live My Life" featuring Daz. Read this:

"I'll be damned if I work for some white cracker (shit)
White batter, prize in the pack, fiends love
They hug it, call it Cracker Jacks, KILLA
Where the crack is at, watch me get dem dice
Throw 'em on, let me live my life"

Obscene, discriminating lyrics... it's like Eminem would have said "Fuckin' nigga" in his raps, totally unacceptable... I suggest nobody here buy this Cam'ron album ( which I regret to have:(), or even better, don't support him at all... abandon his music. At least that's what I've done.

Peace

On "Git Up, Git Out" on outkast's first cds, Andre starts his verse off "They tell me I should vote... Why? Ain't nobody black runnin' for president, Just Crackers"

LOL

Really... amazing, I actually got that album. Guess I never perceived Andre saying that. On the other hand, I can understand him. He was most likely the victim of racial discrimination and oppression in the South in his youth. He just needed to release some aggression. He is forgiven.

Peep an early Ice Cube album.

Cam is known to be a racist. He made a whole song dissin' Oriental store owners on his first album and he even admits that "Cam is a big racist" on Nore's "Banned From T.V."

Fair enough... but this is 2002... with successful white rappers emerging on the hip-hop scene, shouldn't the hiphop culture be devoid of racism? Every non-white rapper saying "cracker" is dissing Eminem & Bubba Sparxxx, for example. It's fucked up... :-/

"Y'all tellin me that I need to get out and vote, huh. Why?
Ain't nobody black runnin but crackers, so, why I got to register?" - Andre 3000

I checked just to make sure, that's what he says.

I don't really take offense, even at snoop's comment.

Yeah, racism is fucked up, period. I hate all types of racism, it sickens me to think that it's still evident these days but thats just the way it is. Look at 2Pac, he said quite alot of racist things towards whites in his music and in interviews, but it was aimed mostly at the white supremists and the rich white folk that often misunderstood young black people and the whole hip-hop culture. I wouldn't take it personally because in many cases the artists that once made those racist comments (Cube, 'Pac, Snoop etc) grew up and now have friendships with white people. People who grow up around racist people only know of the social stereotypes of different races, but I think we all know that stereotypes are worthless, it's about the person not the colour.

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.

Yea, I feel the same way, it's hypocritical, but just like a black guy can't be president, a white guy's gonna get called a cracker, and it'll be alright in most people's eyes.
