I remember this very distinctly, I wasn't very old and this was the first fight that I saw how crooked boxing can be. From the fight to the newspapers after, I couldn't believe Whitaker got robbed. He fought a great fight, and this would have gotten the big exposure that he deserved. Shit went downhill after this, but Pernell outboxed a great fighter, the decision was just horrible.

That one was bullshit too, but not nearly on the same level as this fight. The sport of boxing has gone downhill because of all the power-hungry people involved, too much fixing, corruption, ducking fighters, that it's tough to watch. The heavyweight division is garbage, and there isn't anything good until you go down to middleweight. Even then, you don't get to watch the fights you want to see (Mayweather-Cotto), and I think the fixing and bad decisions have impacted what goes on now.

His name is Don King. King once sent dudes to beat Chavez, even having some black dude call himself the Mexican killer, just to lose. Then King signed Chavez and protected him until he found other boxers that could beat him. Then he shitted Chavez out.

no shit. but boxing as a whole allowed it. when you allow one man to become more powerful then the sport....the sport is ruined. I still love boxing. But I hate the politics.

they were both pretty bad to me. I mean, this one was bad because Pernell clearly won the fight and got hit with a draw. The De La Hoya fight was bad because the fight was so close, and a case could be made for either fighter...but Oscar won convincingly on the score cards. De La Hoya even commented on the corruption before the fight saying how boxing wants him to win the fight. How he is the younger, newer, up and coming fighter...and boxing pulls for those fighters over the more established fighters at the twilight of their careers.
