How To Burn A DVD?
« on: March 12, 2002, 05:16:25 AM »
Hey Guys, I just finally bought a dvd player.  It's an apex 1500, and it plays dvd's, cdr's, cdrw's, vcd's, mp3's, etc. etc.

I want to download some movies off mirc, and burn them to dvd and play them.  I've got a cdr burner, so how do I do it? I know some of yall hackers do this REGULAR, so somebody hook a brotha up, LOL.

Is it possible to burn it so you have like an exact copy of the dvd in stores, on a cd'r?  Lemme know, thanks!

No Trauma. The only way you can view a DVD on that player is to make a Divx copy of it on a cdr, and that requires you to compress the shit out of it. Hate to let you down, but I have the same DVD player you do, and it doesn't work with VCD's, or Divx:( It will play mp3's, but even that feature is kind of shady. You are S.O.L. on watching pirated DVD's on that player, unless of course you have access to a DVD burner, which are down to 600 bones now.

Dogg, you sure you got the same one, because this one says it specifically works with VCD's?

well my cd burner software doesnt support vcds/dvds/etc so I downloaded this one called Ulead DVD MovieFactory. its pretty good you can burn VCDS, SVCDS AND DVDs. i did it twice and it worked fine on my DVD player. the files must be in mpg. you can hit me up on AIM if you need it. laterz

Yeah Trauma, I have the EXACT DVD player you wrote down. And it doesn't work. And Kane, I'm not saying you can't get vcd's to play on ANY dvd player, just apex 1300 through the 1700 series. I've got the 1500, and it says on the box that it plays DVDs CDRs VCDs MP3s ect, and it will NOT play mpeg or divx files. I've tried several different movies, and none of them work, in any format (AVI, MPEG, DIVX).

I got mine to work last night with a svcd, i'm gonna mess around with it tonight to see if I can get it down to a science.  I'll let you know.  I went from mpeg to svcd, with a menu screen, and it worked fine.

Apex 1500 supported formats from vcdhelp.com :
"CDR, CDRW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, VCD, SVCD,Subs
Tracks XVCD 4000kbits, XSVCD 5000kbits, MP3 320kbits."

Therefore if your own burn VCD's don't work then it may be they are in some strange bitrate or the CDR media type you are using is having problems reading - some players are picky.  To check try the sample movies from vcdhelps tools section - these are encoded to the book standard, if they work then convert the files you want to burn to the same spec using TMpeg.

divx : Very few machines at current play divx burnt cd's due to the extra cpu power needed to decode them.  Archos have a portable unit coming out which should play them though ;) : http://www.archos.com/uk/products/product_500280.html < --- very nice :)

If the VCD doesn't work, chances are you must convert the file, as elneckio said, see at tmpgenc.net

This program converts files to VCD-format.

I'm using it, but it takes a great deal of time to convert though.
Converting a music-vid at 3.30 min, takes me 30 mins.

Well, thanks for the info everyone. Trauma, if you find a simple solution that works, please drop knowledge. I just don't have the free time to experiment.

Yea, I got it to work.  If you want a video, you have to download the files, then unzip them into a .cue and .bin file, then burn the .cue using nero... then it'll play in your dvd player as a VCD.  I did that movie "I Am Sam" and it worked fine.

If you want to do a bunch of smaller files like videos, then you just open a vcd in nero... then drag and drop.  It'll tell you if it's the wrong format, and if it is, nero can convert it (takes forever) or you can use that program he mentioned.  That works fine too, you can even make a menu screen like on a regular dvd.
