Prosecutors Push To Have C-Murder Jailed, New Trial Date Set
« on: January 13, 2009, 07:24:31 AM »
With a new judge presiding over C- Murder's trial, prosecutors in the case renewed their attempts to have the rapper thrown back in jail yesterday (January 12)

As reported earlier, Judge Hans Liljeberg was assigned the case Friday (January 9) after three other judges refused to preside over the trial because of their prior involvement in the case.

The initial judge in the case, Martha Sassone, was ousted from her seat last year.

C- Murder, born Corey Miller, is accused of killing sixteen year old Steve Thomas in 2002 during a brawl at the defunct Platinum Club in Louisiana.

The rapper has been under house arrest since he was released on $500,000 bond in 2006 after Sassone overturned his murder conviction and accepted his request for a new trial.

According to The Times Picayune, Liljeberg initially ordered for C-Murder to be jailed Monday after prosecutors claimed the rapper had violated his house arrest rules but he decided to let the rapper off with a warning.

"I will be looking for a reason to increase your bond," Liljeberg told C-Murder. "So conduct yourself accordingly."

Prosecutors said they will b e filing papers in court this week asking Liljeberg to raise C-Murder's bond.

If Liljeberg accepts their request, C-Murder will be returned to jail. If C-Murder posts the increased bond, he will be placed back on house arrest.

When Sassone was presiding over the case, prosecutors tried numerous times to have C-Murder jailed but their requests were turned down.

Prior to leaving office, Sassone had set C-Murder's trial to start yesterday but Liljeberg pushed it back to April 20th.
