Dead Man (soundtrack), bunch of guitar solos by Neil Young! Listened to this while blazing all the way to Nevada.

HipHop is very difficult, though there's a few exceptions like "Regulate" (mellow) or "Mystic Stylez" (trippy). but i'd recommend sth like:

Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland, Are You Experienced?
Pink Floyd - Meddle, Obscured By Clouds, Wish You Were Here, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
The Beatles - Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's, Abbey Road
Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited, Blonde on Blonde
Sublime - 40 Oz. to Freedom, Robbin tha Hood, Sublime

Generally, nothing beats the late 60's. Alternatively, bump some oleskool Jamaican shit (roots stuff, not gay ass T.O.K.) or Motown
