Re-Visiting Jay-Z "American Gangster"
« on: February 22, 2009, 08:45:15 AM »
This was such a damn great album. I think many people disliked it because they made up their minds it was crap after hearing the terrible "Kingdom Come" album.

This album is so fantastic, especially to see a popular NY artist release an album without any mainstream sounding forced tracks. The production on this album is so dope and old school NY sounding, and Jigga fits all the beats perfectly. MAJOR PROPS need to go to Diddy, LV and Sean C for their production work on this :o  This is one of Jigga's best produced albums, right next to RD, BA and Blueprint.

I can't believe this was the follow up to Kingdom Come, what a drastic upgrade lol.

The only track I dislike even a bit is Hello Brooklyn

Pray - 5/5
American Dreamin' - 5/5
Hello Brooklyn - 3.75/5
No Hook - 5/5
Roc Boys - 5/5
Sweet - 4.25/5
I Know - 4/5
Party Life - 4.5/5
Ignorant Shit - 4.25/5
Say Hello - 4.5/5
Success - 4.5/5
Fallin' - 4.5/5
Blue Magic - 4.25/5
American Gangster - 4/5

top 5 in Jigga's disco, a great album. I dunno how so many ppl hate Jigga. He's certainly 1 of the greatest to ever do it.

I can't fucking wait for the Blueprint 3!

i been sayin this, but some haters sayin it was wack. :nawty:

Kingdom Come was a huge let, besides like 4 songs lol.

but American Gangster i could listen begginning to end.

the worst song you have on here is Hello Brooklyn, but i think that was still a good track; i think you think the same, based off the rating.

no fillers, great shit. 8)

I thought this album was horrible and I am not a hater.  Ignorant shit was a great track and there were 2 or 3 other songs I liked but overall I thought the album was wack

It had to be the follow up to KC or Jay would have been done. KC to be honest sounded lazy and the subject matter went over people's heads. People love the club bangers from Jay, the slick talking Jay, the street stories from Jay. AG went back to that.

I bought it and think its good but nothing special. I'd take Blueprint, RD and Black album over it and never really bothered to listen much to life in times so i dunno whered id place it overall. The production was alright with some highlights like Ignorant Shit but there were a lot of average songs.

the fact that henamed it american gangster and that movie was commin out round the same time just came of as cheezy to me. i get he was tryin to bank off the success of the movie but i thot it just seemed lame.

The first track on the album is prolly my fav on the whole album! That and Lost Ones, cuz that track had a sick concept.
