Michelle Obama... How important is the First Lady
« on: April 03, 2009, 09:22:37 AM »
Through out the years, the First Lady has always been more of a figure than important. But that has also made it easier for the First Lady to be part of diplomacy and be the caring symbol that the world sees. Hillary challenged this view, but Michelle seems to be embracing the role head on, despite being the most educated First Lady in history (even has more degrees than Hillary). Do events like this one helping America, or is it nothing?

She is pretty important but not because of her part in diplomacy. She is important for the president's image makers, since it's primarily a P.R extravaganza, carefully designed to steer people away from the issues. Just take a look at this video, it's sheer hysteria and empty rhetoric. It's rather similar to the marketing of  presidential candidates, the reports focus on noble character traits and so on. If they were white the euphoria would've been much more tempered.
We are all human beings isn't that a good enough reason for peace?

I think they have an important role in being an ambassador and helping with humanitarian issues, but thats where it should stop.  When Hillary started with the whole travelgate stuff it showed how a power hungry first lady can go nuts.  After all she was not elected, and just cause shes a dick garage every few nights does not mean she should have power over anything.

The 2 posts above it sum it up as well as possible, she is seen as an ambassador and a spokeswoman. She is just another person for them to talk about and credit for the president's accomplishments, referring to her as "the strong woman behind the man" etc. Either that or they just talk about her great selection of clothes and other nonsense that I don't understand why people care so much about.
I got a bird's eye view

she's a black woman uplifting the youth and ppl in general, in particular kids/ppl that have no positive role models and would never imagine seeing a black woman rise to her stature all in all she doing good work with her position in this video propaganda or not

Yep, well said. My girlfriend is not very "politically inclined", but she loves the family structure that Michelle keeps in the limelight and I think that's true for a lot of people who don't really follow politics, but still sees a huge chunk of new coverage.
