Encore is a wack album but it's getting too much hate from some people. The saddest thing is, it's equal to most of the mainstream albums that drop these days.

Dope tracks: Evil Deeds, Never Enough, Yellow Brick Road, Like Toy Soldiers, Mosh, Rain Man, Spend Some Time, Mockingbird and Encore. That's 9 out of 16 (not counting the skits). Not to mention the 3 bonus tracks.

The first verse on my first single was actually dope but... after that it's just wack rhymes in the song

Erra Erra Eric swallowed some generic sleeping pills
And woke up in bed next to his best friend Derick bare naked
chicka chicka chicka ..
Janean just turned 16 and used a fake id
To sneak in V.I.P. to see R. Kelly
Hehehehehe, to be so young and naive
Oh what I wouldn't give to live so Kim and care free
Paris and Nikki's parents must be so tickled to cherish
Every picture with their kids with hickeys all over their necks
Hickory Dickory Dirk Diggler
Look at me work wizardry with these words
Am I a jerk or just jerk chicken
Or Chicka chicka chicka chicka jer jer jerkin the chain
22 jerks and a jerk circle
Or is it a circle jerk or wait a minute
What am I sayin, allow me to run it back and rewind it
rrrbb lemme ask you again
Am I just jerkin the chain
Am I bizerk or insane
Or am I just one of them damn amateurs
Workin the damn camera filmin one of them
Paris Hilton home made pornos
Who keeps tiltin the lens at an angle
Chicka Chicka
Just recently somebody just discovered
Britney and Justin videotapes of them fuckin
When they were just mouseketeers in the Mickey Mouse club
And dusted them and went straight to The Source with them
Cause they coulda sworn someone said Nuh-
And then tried to erase and record over it
But if you listen close enough to it you can hear the
Ga-Uh and then the come to find out it was Justin
Sayin 'I'm done-uh!' Come on
And this was suppose to be

How can that have gone over anyones heads? I know what it meant, the lyrical content and the rhymes were complete shit. The first verse was alright but after that it just descends into mindless childish trash. If it wasn't for the fact that Eminem had 3 fantastic albums before this, then Eminem would not have lasted long. The album was horrible and as for the line at the end, he didn't say shit, or certainly nothing that was worth hearing anyway. You could also say that in knowing that the line laughs at those who will swallow this crap and proclaim it to be something great.

i can't c how anybody can call "Encore" that bad.  It may not be 'that' shit for you, but it goes hard.  like the homie said b4, after 8 mile came out ppl were expecting something different/more mature but they got the same Eminem, just better.

do you seriously think Encore >>> all his albums before? ???

i thought you were trying to just make the argument it was a good album; that was at least acceptable lol. :P

You must have 1 fucked up brain processing process.  where and when do i ever say tha shit you always put out there.  stop tryna make me look like a lame, it won't happen

I think this bit leads one to believe that you think Encore was superior then his past material.

I guess we just don't agree on a lot.  I don't think the rhymes are complete shit.  What makes them complete shit?  What do you mean worth hearing?  How the hell do you decide what artist should spit about?  What other artist does material like this?

Your legacy comment is moot.  It's true for any artist and isn't particular just to Eminem.

Again it wasn't anything to do with the concept or the content matter, what sucks is the weak rhymes and the mindless bordering on just child like lyrics. It wasn't clever, it wasn't deep, it wasn't witty, the rhymes were so base level that it literally sounded like something which would be concocted from just fucking around in the studio, not something which should find it's way onto the record shelves.

I heard a large part of the album was rushed due the leak of those 4-6 tracks that made Straight From the Lab ep (3 of which were the bonus cuts).    Basically, I agree with everyone that claims by this time he told the majority of his life story and wasn't spitting the same as he used to.   I don't think that's bad.  It's just how it is.

While I agree that they're not deep reflecting, soul searching lyrics they're not about nothing which a lot of the critics claim.  Each song fulfills it's purpose with it's lyrics.   How is that bad?  I don't think it is.  I don't believe that every song has to be a in your face, soul touching.   Em kept being honest and telling his story, what more do you want?

If this is Em's worst effort and it's better then most albums then it's not bad or horrific.  It's a disappointing release from Em but it's still good.
Answer this: who's album was released on a major commercial level that is equal to this?

Note: I can think of a few artist but I'm interested in your opinion.

Interesting, I didn't know those bonus tracks were leaked tracks presumably from what would have been on the album. It would make sense, after the first few songs, the album just plummets downwards. Again though I didn't just say deep, I said it wasn't witty, nothing seemed to be thought out, there was nothing to do it. just fucking around in the studio like I said lol.
Now as for your question, what time frame are you talking about?

Copy and pasting a post i made a month or so back on this album...since its all about opinions and all and how people can like this album and all... ::) heres my quick take on why i cant get into this album. Its just not music of any quality for me.

1. Evil Deeds -decent, nice beat but no replay value
2. Never Enough - 50 came great, outshone eminem, one of the better tracks but again, something missing.
3. Yellow Brick Road decent track - rigid feeling but okay
4. Like Toy Soldiers  - amazingly rigid, terrible beat and eminem stutters through his flow. Not for me, nice message but so boring and rigid.
5. Mosh - this supposed to be music?
6. Puke - this called fucking music? and move the fuck on, nobody gives a shit
7. My First Single - again..this supposed to be hiphop?
8. Rain Man nice beat, dont know why they went with the track the way they did though...
9. Big Weenie - the beat was a knock off old dre beat made again pretty much for somereason...and the end product was wack, flowing to flow, nothing to say...you just did two whole songs and u never said shit...and what? am i  supposed to be impressed? you a major cat, cats pay for your shit more than download it and u drop this...
10. Just Lose It - again...this supposed to be music?
11. Ass Like That -this could have been used on another artist better...not for eminem, wack
12. Spend Some Time - i cant believe this gets love from shady record fans, this is so wack. The most rigid song ever, the beat is amateur at best, this aint the type of song that needs a beat like this!!
13. Mockingbird - so we heard you love your daughter...take 1, take 2, take 3, take 4...we get the point...decent track though, but i mean...i cant hate for making a track about his daughter no matter how many times he does it but that dont mean it doesnt get boring
14. Crazy In Love - MOVE THE FUCK ON LOL
15. One Shot 2 Shot  - fight music is the best d12 eminem joint imo or one of the best...this was weak
16. Encore - again rigid, horrible beat for dre, where was the funk, zero funk in a dre beat? lol...shocking...one of the worst and most forced dre and eminem collabs ever...possibly the most forced...and 50 on it just to be on it too...

That pretty much sums it up for me...maybe 2-3 decent tracks...

HORRIBLE album!

pz

Anyway i feel ive pretty much said i piece in this thread as i y'all can see! haha, carry on with the encore being the 'shit' talk... :-X

Jay-Z - American Gangster
Roots - Tipping Point
Lupe Fiasco - The Cool
Joe Budden - Padded Room
Chamillionaire - Ultimate Victory
AZ - A.W.O.L
T.I. - Paper Trail
Royce Da 5'9 - Death Is Certain
Kanye West - The College Dropout
Immortal Technique - Revolutionary Volume 2
Game - The Documentary

Those are off the top of my head, I am sure there are many others but I haven't listened to that many albums in recent years. The main reason is because there are so many underwhelming album releass.

be real.....judging by his work since,em should have retired after mmlp

Why would you say that?

I think he still had not reached his peek.  I think Eminem's greatest album was The Eminem Show.  That album is flawless from beginning to end, and he even produced the majority of the tracks on there.  Slim Shady LP and MMLP were both great records as well, but they were shorter and reflected an earlier period is his career, I think Eminem Show is when he came full circle.

Then his most successful song ever and the song I believe he will be most remembered for 20 years from now is "Lose Yourself" off the 8 Mile Soundtrack.  Also, "8 Mile" rd. is my personal favorite of his.  Also, his work on 50's first album and jump starting his career early on can not be forgotten.  Then after Get Rich Or Die Trying jumped off Eminem fell off after that and has never been the same since.  That's when you really start to notice a difference.  But from 1998 to 2003 everything Eminem put out was excellent.

I agree.. I really thought Em really upped his game on TES.  To me it's his best album.  MMLP is 2nd in my book.  To me I could never get into SSLP and don't know what everyone sees in it when they say it's so great and it's his best..

In order of what I think is his best.

TES
MMLP
Relapse
SSLP
Infinite
Greatest Hits
ALL mixtapes
dirt under his shoes
smelly underwear
Encore..

^personally & i would think the general public would say;

MMLP = SSLP > TES > Relapse >>> Encore.

but TES was a great album to me, but MMLP & SSLP are two REAL classic albums to me.

two of the best albums ever. 8)

I'm sure the general public would say... but like I said.. that's how (I)(ME)(LITTLE OLD ME) Rate them.

I've just never been able to get into SSLP as a whole.. not that there ain't good tracks on it... just from start to finish I can't listen to it.  Where as MMLP & TES.. both amazing albums IMO and I bump them on the regular.. STILL.
