What ya'll think about Communism
« on: February 13, 2002, 09:29:29 AM »
There's pro's and cons.  Generally I disagree with it.  I'd have to actually live in a communist society to offer a truly educated opinion.  I've read about people that have lived both in a capatalist society like America, and then later in a communist society like Cuba, and generally they prefer a democratic, capatalist society.  In fact, they say that communism suppresses your "soul", and that depression is high.  But depression is real high here.... Look at the statistics of depressed people in America.  Another posotive about Communism is that you control the work, instead of the work controlling you.  I tried to read Karl Marx but found it to difficult.... So what ya'll think?

And what countries are communist?  Here's the ones I thought were, correct me if I'm wrong.

Cuba
Algeria
Central Africa
North Korea
China
North Vietnam
Russia

From what I've seen Communism wouldn't be as advantageous as a capitalistic society, but I've never lived in a communist environment, so I can't back up that statement.

Speaking of Marx, wasn't he more (Or I should say his ideas were more) of a socialist than a communist? Just curious.

Marx, Lenin, all those cats were extreme communists as far as I know.  They could have also been advocates of Socialism.... I mean, couldn't there be both....... Socialism is where the power is with the State, rather then the country, correct?  So couldn't you have Communism ran by the authority of the State?  Holla back.

I'm sure that Marx is generally considered the authority on Socialism. In fact sometimes you'll hear socialism called Marxism. Communism is more similar to Socialism in the aspect of everyone has a job, but from what I can tell, the biggest difference between the two is that the government owns the "companies" that communists work for, where as the workers own the company in a socialistic society. Which is what the whole Socialist "Utopian Society" is based on. They are similar in how jobs are run, the ownership is different though. Less oppression in a socialist environment as opposed to communist. Kind of hard to put it in writing. Would be alot easier to verbally tell you. Maybe I'll check to see if you are on msn later if you want to talk about it.

^^ That part about everyone owning the company they worked for would be in what Marx considered a "Perfect Utopian Society". There are several levels of Socialism that could exist, but Marx was more about a perfect society. Which, due to people being lazy, and not wanting to earn their keep, this perfect society will never exist. In theory, I really like the idea of Socialism, but it just isn't achievable. At least a perfect society.

Communism (in Theory) is the best thing ever done/invented/made (whatever), but in reality people take more then they can chew. There's always greedy peeps. Communism would only work if there wern't greedy people (hence the reason why it only works perfectly in theory)

From what i know, Karl Marx was a little over idealistic, he was a very clever guy (he gave one of the best definitions of social class ive ever heard), but he refused to acknowledge the floors in the socialist concept, i.e peoples greed and the desire to be innovative, some have a higher level of determination then others and of course we all have different ways of thinking and arent all as bright as each other.

The main floor in the socialist concept is that it inadvertantly discourages individuality, which in any 'society' isnt a good thing.

Anyway thats what i learnt in prison.

Well I wish a socialist utopian soxiety would work but because of our human nature it is impossible. Everybody would share there stuff and no one could be jealous and all would be great.

Communism I would shy away from since like others mentioned, it discourages individuality. Other than that I think it would of been okay but man's nature wouldn't allow it.

This is exactly right Joachim. That was Marx main problem, he woudln't acknowledge this aspect, and that is why he was considered "over idealistic".

Good topic Infinite. I used to be real interested in this stuff when I was in college, but I kind of forgot about all this. Makes me want to learn more about it.

I agree with most of what you guys say because the fact is Communism only works on paper and in theory because no man has been willing to give up the absolute power to form a true Communist state. Overall i believe Communism would be good if man as a whole was not so greedy.

Man, let me tell yall somethin that I think is useful. First: Russia is not a Communist country since 1991, where have you been all these years? Second: Karl Marx is Marxism, not Communism, if u want Communism, read Lenin. Third: theres no North or South Vietnam since the 60s, where have you been again? Forth: COMMUNISM IS THE MOST FUCKED UP THING! I remember my parents having like a $30 monthly ncome! I remember seeing nothing but bread in stores! I remember wearing the same clothes for 5 years! I remember not knowing what video or stereo is! I remember that we couldnt go abroad by any means! I remember there was 2, yes TWO television channels! I remember riding a bus with like 400 people in it not having much air to breathe! IM GLAD LIVING IN DEMOCRATIC RUSSIA AND I WOULD NEVER WANT TO GET BACK AGAIN!!!!!

I be one of those tall skinny cats with the four-nine
Three-eleven that rips through Power-U's and breaks spines
I culture power-tuggin' boys who be drunk, buggin'
Lovin' loud noise from toys, club thuggin'
Sweet chocolate deluxe, rugged, sexy buttercup
That don't give a fuck about the cop in the club

what waz going on in the soviet union wazn"t comunism....in fact no country haz ever been under tha real (by it"z defenition) comunism....it"z utopic....as some peepz said...
tha country that comes the closest to tha defenition, iz China...but still...not quite.
tha original idea of comuinsm iz unbelieveably good...and most o yall prolly know it....but as some said....tha human nature iz what stopez it from existin.
i would even say that tha soviet union ruended it....it waz and still iz pretty much imposssible to create comusinm...but soviet union scared tha shit outa anyone who earlier might"ve thought it waz a good way of life....tha original comunism iz not suppose to interfear wit equallity and all the other democratical rightz....on contrare....it iz tha home theory of euallity....tha sovietiz (and when i say this i mean tha headz of their govermentz...cauze they dictated tha whole shit....it waz worst than monarcy...(in fact no king neither an emperor alowd himself to do tha shit STALIN used to do).
*did ya know that if JOSEF STALIN would"ve lived one more day...all tha Jewz in USSR would"ve been transported in one night(belive it...i"m serious) to some cosentration campz in SIBERIA ?...

We are all human beings isn't that a good enough reason for peace?
