US is already a socialist government.  Medicare and Medicaid meant government control of the health care industry, just the last couple years the government basically bought out the banking industry, America runs a vast welfare state..so many sectors of the economy controlled by the government.

No, it is not real socialism, they are calling it socialism yet colluding with corporations, it's corporatism, there is an endless supply of corporate welfare and some chicken scratch fed throw to everyone else that aint socialism regardless of how many times Time, The Economist and all these other bullshit controlled publications try and convince people otherwise.  Furthermore it is the Federal Reserve has essentially been given power to take over any sector of the economy under the premise that it will be the regulator, the watchful monitor, the solution, but essentially the Federal Reserve is controlled by it's banking shareholders. To further underline this point congress pressed Bernanke on who had been the recipients of the so called bail out money and he simply refused to tell them.

Yes there is keynesian government controls still within government such as the welfare state but it essentially a privately run economy under the guise of socialism. The fact is the neoliberal minded (neoconservative) economists want to do away with the welfare state but know they can't do it in one fell swoop so you can expect massive cuts in social spending just as there have been and are going to be in the UK.
