Too Gangsta 4 Radio Compilation

1. Intro
2. Friends (2Pac)…Basically sounds the same as the original, with slightly different production.  Pac flows well.  Overall, a fuck song, with a couple of disses thrown in.  Good hook.  4/5
3. Gangsta rap (Crooked I, Treach, Scarface)…Head noddin’ production.  Straight west coast beat.  All three sound great on the track.  Catchy hook.  4/5
4. I ain’t fuckin’ wit cha (CJ Mac)…Tight ass gangsta beat.  CJ Mac disses Dr. Dre and Aftermath records.  A decent diss, but nothing exceptionally clever.  Still a dope flow over a dope beat.  4/5
5. Everywhere we go (Above the Law)…Quality production.  ATL’s flow fits nicely to the well crafted beat.  3.5/5
6. Fuck Hollywood (Tha Realest)…Dope ass beat.  Tha Realest spits hella disses aimed at rappers and actors.  He’s got a tight flow.  4.5/5
7. Murda for life (Ja Rule)…I liked the beat the first time I heard it-when Dogg Pound used it on “Dogg Pound 4 life”.  Murder Inc. sounds better on this west coast beat than east coast beats.  Still, not a good track.  2/5
8. In too deep (Ruff Ryders)…The production sounds like it’s trying to cater to a west coast audience, but it’s a poor attempt.  Boring and repetitive production accompany dull flow and lyrics.  2/5
9. Fuck Dre (Tha Realest, Swoop G, Twista, Lil C Style)…Starts out with a funny skit at Aftermath records.  The production is similar to “Forgot about Dre”; it’s a tight beat.  Tha Realest puts down a hella tight verse with a stutter-type flow.  The chorus could have been better.  Everybody else’s verses are average.  3.5/5
10.   Thug nature (2Pac)…A classic typical 2Pac love (fuck) song.  Tight flow and nice production.  3.5/5
11.   Death rizzo (Crooked I)…Production has an old school feel to it.  It’s a boring beat, but Crooked I puts down 3 tight verses.  3.5/5
12.   Projects (Swoop G, Keita Rock, Juice)…Fairly simple beat.  Decent flow.  3/5
13.   Gangsta’d out (K-9)…Lighter, more friendly production.  Nice hook and good flow and lyrics.  3.5/5
14.   Give it up for Compton (Dresta)…Dresta puts down 3 dope verses with some quality production.  The voice box is a nice touch on the chorus.  4/5
15.   Real type gangsta (Mac-Shawn)…Nice production.  Mac-Shawn lays down some tight lyrics.  3.5/5
16.   The coff (G.P.)…This production sounds like a South beat.  This guy sounds like a mix of DMX, Mystikal, and maybe Ja Rule.  A track worth skipping.  2.5/5
17.   This is the thanks you get (The Relatives, Nuttz)…Another diss aimed at the Aftermath staff.  Quality production and decent lyrics.  3.5/5
18.   Too gangsta (Dresta, Young Hoggs)…Dresta puts down a nice verse.  I’m really not feelin’ Young Hoggs though.  The production is strange, but overall a good song.  3.5/5

OVERALL…3.25/5

This compilation could have been a lot better if it wasn’t saturated with so many disses aimed at Aftermath Records.  A few are okay, but it gets old listening no-names diss Dr. Dre and company.  The production, however, is great for the most part.  Tha Realest, Crooked I, Dresta, and of course 2Pac stand out above the rest.  Not bad for a compilation.

Thanks for the review man. Not sure I'd agree with the description of the production as "great" - maybe "OK"!

You're right when you say that the constant dissing spoils the album. That "Snoop" intro in particular shows the depths to which DR would stoop to knock their former stars' hustles.

I'd give it 2.5 / 5 overall, because that's exactly what it is - AVERAGE. There's simply nothing stand out here. And some of the songs are SO badly produced it beggers belief (what the FUCK happens to the sound levels halfway through Face's verse in 'Gangsta Rap'??!?)

Best tracks? 'Death Rizzo' (an anthem for the new-look Row, made me appreciate Crooked's skills) and 'Give It Up For Compton' (has that old Parliament-style, good time funk, kinda like Snoop's 'What's My Name'.)

It was alright. I only heard it once at a cousin's house and it didn't really catch my attention with the exception of a few tracks.

I think its a dope album, the tracks are straight west coast, not a classic, but still a great album.

Word, Crooked I brings heat on this one.

I would give the album a 3, half of the songs are tight, but there are some straight bullshit on this album as well...
