Chronic ReLit WALMART Clean Edition w/Bonus Tracks
« on: August 27, 2009, 04:21:53 PM »
Just found this out....

"Smoke On" by Snoop Doggy Dogg produced by Dre is a exclusive bonus song for "The Chronic Re-Lit" Walmart version available Sept 1 2009!

Anyone have any news on the other bonus track? I-tunes bundles etc?

I know. Not sure what to make of that either but that's the promotion. I have a hard time believing Snoop recorded a track with Dre back in 93 called "smoke on" that didn't contain something Walmart found offensive.  It will be very gay if it's censored.

I questioned that too when I read that a few days ago. Would be a shame if it's some bangin track and it's all edited and shit which would potentially ruin it.

You won't find a dirty version of an album in Walmart at least in the US.

This Smoke song might be similar or the one that was on DPG 2002..

Leave the mastering to the experts and people who originally did it..

Clean version of The Chronic will probably use Bass/other elements that are derived off the sound to mask (and backmask) the curse words.

The track on the other hand might be a simple track that contained no cursing. It can either be a Radio Version (think of the Clean version of Deep Cover) or a version that was backmasked and cleaned up.It can also be a track that contains no hardcore curse words and is just in its original form.

“I thought the catalogue was going to be more organized,” says Lavi when we chat over the phone. “But part of the problem is that, in the vaults themselves, a tremendous amount of the DATs and reels are mislabeled.” Consequently, they’ve had to invest some serious effort in listening to a veritable deluge of classic hip-hop. It’s an ambitious listening process, one which requires experts to identify details like producers and samples. “We have one person who is probably the most eager fan,” says Lavi. “He was the last employee at Death Row and he’s been invaluable. I like to tease him and say that he probably knew what colour underwear Snoop was wearing when he recorded ‘Gin and Juice.’”

so most of the stuff that was documented on those released pdfs might be mislabeled? wonder who this former deathrow employee is?
