I know that' why I said

YOU LIKE WHAT YOU LIKE

My only point is one shouldn't dismiss what you don't like as bad.  You simply don't like it doesn't mean it's bad.  I don't like anchovies.  They're not bad, I just don't enjoy them.

I perfectly understand that.

Myself I listen to all types of music but mainly rap and "rock."  I dabble in the blues, jazz, country, and on rare occasion will put on some classical music - mainly piano though

Ten years and you can only name 2 good bands?

You must not be listening to enough music.

But, what's the point of this thread?  Really, who cares?  It doesn't mean anything.

it stinks of a hater, move on bitch

Name some good bands then.I listen to tons of music and im open to anything.

To clarify, the bitch comment was not directed towards you but to the thread creator.

As for rock music, you like what you like.  I don't think you should be dismissive of the music simply because you don't like it.  In the past ten years we've had Radiohead, Coldplay, Agaisnt Me, Animal Collective, Eli Paper Boy Reed, Rage Against The Machine, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Brand New, Casino, Say Anything, Chevelle, Kate Nash, Ingrid Michaelson, Mogwai, Do Make Say Think, Broken Social Scene, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Converge, Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, Ryan Adams, Bright Eyes, etc.

I listed more popular, some not so much.  Some more strictly rock, some pop rock, some hardcore, some country, etc.

My only point is while one might not enjoy the music it doesn't mean it's bad.  And, you recognize that but I still find you comment about 2 rock bands in the past ten years to be degrading.

Well most of the bands you listed are not from the past ten years,a lot of 90s bands in your list.I like a lot of those choices actually. But still most of them are from the 90s.Rise against is a newer band that i enjoy

Hip Hop will never compare to rock.

Only an idiot would find more artistic/technical/intellectual value in hip hop.

That being said I hate modern rock with the exception of a handful of acts here and there.

Rock music is still played. I live in fuckin' Minnesota, were people prefer rock to rap any day, and even their rock stations play only rock older than 10 years. Sad, it's like rock died in 1999.

I come from a rock background and I've been playing guitar about 10 years now but I have to side with what most are saying. Rock has been very very poor over the last decade and more. Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam to me is an example of the decline of rock music. very boring radio rock worshipped by many of course, but it's instantly forgettable and formulaic. There have been a few bands recently that have pushed the boundaries and made something awesome, but bands like Brand New and Kate Nash are not exactly good evidence of that, I feel that just proves how stale rock has become.

I'm not trying to hate on your taste in rock music but you don't really make a convincing case that rock hasn't went downhill. The only bands in that list that are even relevant and influential are Mogwai, Radiohead and Bright Eyes. I'm not a huge fan of all those bands but they certainly have made their place in the world of rock and will continue to be relevant for many more years.

Influence?  That's how you judge the caliber of music?

I admit the majority of the bands I listed won't ever be influential ala The Beatles but it doesn't matter to me.

SOMETHING CAN NOT BE DEAD IF IT'S AROUND AND BREATHING.  Hip-hop is not dead.  Rock is not dead.  Country is not dead.  None of it has died.  Ska and Punk have shrunk considerably in popularity but they're not dead either.

If anything it is evidence that millions of people are invested in it more than ever.  It lives so much that people have taken it for granted.  It's the norm where as the in past it was the exception.

My argument is simply rock nor hip-hop is dead.  I actually don't think it's gone downhill either...mainstream I suppose it has.  I just think music businesses have discovered what the majority of consumers enjoy and marketed it that way.

I disagree about Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam.  I think they've done what they've always done similar to the Rolling Stones.  Poor rock music is nickleback.

I agree that Brand New and Kate Nash aren't great evidence of caliber rock music.  They're fine pop music that I enjoy.

What's your list of artists from the past decade?  Who do you look up to?
