Favourite Fat Joe Album
« on: December 04, 2009, 12:33:01 PM »
Thread is not a poll, it's up fr discussion.

Represent (1993) - this is some grimy D.I.T.C. shit, and I love it.Joe's slightly above average on the mic here, but he does the job over the haunting production throughout the whole album.D.I.T.C. features and production, with additional guest appearances by Kool G. Rap, Grand Puba, King Sun and Apache.Dope shit. For the west coast fans it might e interesting to know DJ Slip also remixed This Shit Is Real.

Jealous Ones Envy (1995) - a step up lyrically on this album for Joe.I enjoy it just as much as his debut, if not a little more.I love Success and its Premier remix, many standaout tracks like Part Deux, Respect Mine with Raekwon, Bronx Tale with KRS...and I could go on.Dope ass album. My only complaint was that Firewater was left off this album. It would've completed it perfectly

Don Cartagena (1998) - now this is by far MY favourite Fat joe album. It's a great and really consistent record, with top notch production provided by Buckwild, Marley Marl, DJ Premier, Younglord, Ski and many more.Big Pun's presence should be noted, he's featurred on a good portion of the tracks, and you can tell he has influenced Joe a lot lyrically on this one.Great Album

Joealous Ones Still Envy (2001) - well I haven't listened to this album in its entirely, but I love the singles from it.What's Luv really marked my Junior High years, We Thuggin' was a cool song. Then you have The Wild Life with Xzibit, which I think is a great song. But that's about it, I will be checking it out

Bar a few tracks from here and there, I haven't checked any of his other albums, probably never will

Don Cartegena was an absolutely amazing album. Maybe it was the guest features or producers or what have you but that album was something else. Off the strength of it, I bought "Jealous Ones Still Envy" and while it was only about half as good, I still think it was a worthwhile purchase. The one that came out after that was maybe two good songs and after that, I stopped checking. But between John Blaze, Triplets, and all those other dope joints, that is just a vicious album.

Yep, he has. Thats why the topic of how much he has fallen off gets talked about pretty regularly. In my eyes he is the record holder for it.

Joe's first appearance is in 89 (was recorded actually, released in 2007) when Diamond D had a group with some other guy, named Ultimate Force. They released a single, but the album was shelved and DIamond D released it in 2007

Man it seems like decades ago those 2 worked together.  >:(

I thought after the last DITC album that Joe would start back working with them more frequently but it never happened. Same with Cool N Dre.

Fat Joe never wrote his own lyrics, he always used/uses ghostwriters. Most of Terror Squad has been his writers.

for me Success, Fat Joe's In Town, The Shit Is Real (DJ Premier Remix), Say Word, Respect Mine make this Joe's standout album...

having said that, Don Cartagena is a close 2nd, the production is so polished and dope but at the same time the content stays true to what Joe represents, something which he has been unable to really recreate ever since  8)

He's definitetly up there. It's crazy because I'll tell people how dope Fat Joe was back in the day and they look at me like I'm crazy. The biggest surprise on Cartegena is the title track. It's him and Puffy. If they made a collabo today, it would be hard for me to check for it because of where the styles went but that song is a fucking banger.
