finally, an interesting debate

like u said, "people don't buy the product cause of the features".. BUT ppl are movin their vision towards u as an artist, IF u have tied ur industry-knots - like, can u seriously say dat someone are lookin into a no-name nigga more, if he ain't been featured somewhere of a relevant magnitude?

EXAMPLE
the reason why Shakira's label, is payin Weezy big stacks for a 16verse for their artist shit, is simply because of... HE'S KNOWN! hiphop-fans can relate to him, so the label figures "hey, how bout stealin some of them hiphopfans by featurin their current biggest star on our artist shit, and release it as a single"

this whole business, is a "Who-knows-who" world.. n if u think u can promote a no-name nigga without backin of what's relevant (wihtout fan-base or without a trendsetting formula), then.. well, i rest my case

i dont know everything homie, but if im interested in somethin im usually schoolin myself into perfection about dat subject - A+++ style  ;D

Weezy is pushed on people's shit because he's a brand name. He's one of the few features that would make an album sale, like you said. A lot of people buy his garbage ass shit. You build a fanbase by releasing mixtapes, establishing the artist, etc. - Features aren't always necessary. You can still do today what people did in the 1999 market. People don't do it though, because they would rather take the so-called safe approach. Also, Shakira did Lil Wayne because she wanted to stay current in the U.S. market. Also, I can promote it without a trendsetting formula because I can establish a big ass fan base.

features are def necessary if ur comn out zero-nigga-deep, out the hood, dirty fingernails, no nothin.. a feature is def necessary for u then, to create some eyeballin comin ur way.. ESPECIALLY in this over-flooded business today. ppl aint lookin for u, or not downloadin ur tape from datpiff, if the name-game ain't played (IF u dont have the following already) - simple as it gets.. BUT there are alternatives, trendsetting formulas etc/ subject-matter relevant for the current times on ur released single etc etc

AND if u want to create ur fanbase like ur sayin u can do (whitout no relevant consistency bein featured on ur debut album, bein a production from an a-game producer or 16-bar verse from an a-game rapper), u usually need to stun those fans ur tryin to acquire wit somethin diffrent, some new content, - "a new formula"
like i said, this business is a "Who's-fuckin-who-who's-suckin-who" industry, ruled by youtube, myspace etc etc

it's not how it was back in 95, when 3˝mics in The Source, was enuff to get u some recordsales..

Yeah, I feel you.  You do have a point there, but with enough push and enough shove - you can bring it back to 1995 times. Just got to get enough people.

yeah, a loyal followig is the biggest lifeline for an artist dat is not "wit the times"

look at Ice Cube, he came out gangsta as he ever was wit his content, nothin changed (well, mayb some Lil Jon-beats), cakin up like a muffucca wit dat gold-sellin record "Laugh Now, Cry Later".. and dat was just some year ago or so

Can someone explain to me why he or his promotion team would release this mixtape without a tracklisting  ???
I think its safe to say this wasn't a leak, as it was featured on Aftermath's site.
