Kid Cudi is on Kanye West's label, which helped him, but I was really put onto him by "Day n Nite" which came out before I knew he was signed to G.O.O.D., and isn't even produced by Kanye..  So yes, Cudi earned his own hype..

yeah, that's the first time i even heard the name "Kid Cudi".

J. Cole is such a more legit rapper than Drake...

without a doubt, but Drake has the more mainstream appeal & can sing; so he'll remain "better" in the eyes of the average listener.

I think J. Cole is getting most of shine JUST BECAUSE of Jay-Z.  After Blueprint 3 he got noticed.  Before that it was all 2dopeboyz and blogs.   His music hasn't even made moves yet say Drake's So Far Gone.

Cudi got shine because of Kanye West.  I'm from Cleveland and that's the truth.

The point of the matter is it's a pointless observation to make.  It's true for nearly any artist in the mainstream.
Cool breeze; I'm hopping out of new Beams
My outfit ran me a few G's but none of that will matter if you leave
I used to be an Adam with two Eves and shawtys automatically do me
Excuse me, all that happened before you doesn't matter
I'm a vision of the future climbing the success ladder
Recline, in the mean time, twenty three shine, diamond bling blind as I rewind

people say he has dope punchlines but its like thats all his songs rely on. Hes a good writer but to me he's straight boring. I'd rather listen to canibus.

i dont know what the hype is around b.o.b? dude is average at best.

xzibit fell off, and joel ortiz is nothing worth mentioning.

hate on drake all you want, im just pumped a canadian cat is doing big numbers that i enjoy listening to even tho the music is commercialized, he has dirty punchlines.

kardi is the only canadian rapper doing big things and to be honest i hate his recent shit.

Kardi needs to get back to his Ol Time Killin and BaKardi Slang if you ask me.

I think this thread is quite interesting, because it reflects exactly what I noticed about Drake in the past few months. Usually, artists get categorized quickly and remain in one category. However with Drake, it's different. I see people on here trying to say only 13 yr old girls anticipate him. Sure they do, however, I've rarely seen an artist get play in so many different circles, from little girls to grown men.

While I was in Cali this past summer, I heard Shade Sheist and Roscoe banging Drake in the car, i heard Nipsey Hussle banging Drake, I heard white school girls bumping Drake, so on and so forth. He has a wide range of people checking for him, and though his subject matter isn't the broadest, most people can still relate to him in a way.

It took me some time to get into his music but I've been a fan for a few months now and have been checking his past material and dude def has the potential to drop one of the albums of the year. And yeah, it's fair to say that overall it is probably the most anticipated album in 2010.

I'm anticipating a few debuts by several up-and-comers (Nipsey Hussle, Jay Rock, Pill, B.o.B., Big Bank Black, Chalie Boy etc...) this year and Drake is no exception. I like his music, all I have to do is delete any track of his with a Cash/Young Money label-mate and I'm all ears 8).
