i havent heard much of quik
about 10 tracks and i can say eithwer  has been bad
but i can say that abouta couple dre beats
but dres been around for over a decade.

Quik is not more innovative...he has used the SAME FUNK FOR YEARS...HE EVEN SAID SO HIMSELF!  Dre has changed his style from N.W.A. - Death Row, from Death Row - Aftermath...now he will soon change up again.

Dre samples a lot?  BULLSHIT.  Dre makes his tracks out of thin air - with live instruments.  He sampled a lot only in the Death Row days.

Well Ive got some time to post so heres my thoughts on the subject...



  I said before that if you didnt know all the music of both dont vote. Some guy above said that hed only heard 10 Quik songs. Now that is just unfair...I realize this is just a poll on a message board but there is absolutly no way you can judge someone over 10 songs when youve oviously heard way more from Dre.


And Quik has changed his style.

Quik Is The Name - was more demo...Just him learing..sampling...Exactly what dre did with NWA.

Way 2 Fonky - Got his sound right...He made his music fonky. It was just a step above from his last cd.

Safe + Sound - ha was hard on this. He started messin with the talkbox more. He was using the samples right this time and he still branced off with funk.

Rhythmalism - Do i even need to say anything? This is the most original rap cd ive ever heard judging by producton. Its nothing short of amazing. Dres not in arms length from this one.

Balance & Options - Well....Not his best but he proved originality with Well, Tha DIvorce Song, Outro, Pitch In...ect. Defenetly sounds different from Rhythmalism.

Under Tha Influence - Doesnt sound like any cd hes done before. Completely original. The sound, The beats...everything. Very experimental.


Now id like to address the whole "playing instruments" topic... Dre seems to not go out in the open of who does what with his production. Unless you do a hard study of the names of the credits you cant really know for sure. As for Quik---Im a fan that owns all 6(GH is for X-mas) DJ Quik cds. Reading the credits inside i can tell you that Quik has about 3 people that he works with.... Robert Bacon, Stan And G1.  If youve listened to one of G1s solo productions youd realize alot of Quiks "Fonky" production comes from him. But if you listen to some of Quiks solo work then youd see he is VERY original and innovative.

Im looking at the Rhythmalism booklet right now and I can see that Quik produces "We still party almost ALL by himself. Check it...

Synthesizer, Bass, Drums - DJ Quik
Guitar - Robert "Fonksta" Bacon
Percussion - DJ Quik & Eric McCain

So he cant play the guitar and he got some help on percussion. Now this may not be a big deal to someone that doesnt know much about this track but it is one of the best produced songs ever. Just listen from begining to end and try to count how many sounds/instruments you hear.


Also Id liek to address someones comment about Dre having more than 2 classics and him bringing more talent into the game... Well if you wanna do it that way then...

Suga Free - Street Gospel (Every song has a touch of Quik)
Mausberg - Non Fiction (Lots of Quik)
2nd II None - 2nd II None - (I think every song)
Penthouse Players Clique - Paid The Cost (Touch Of Quik On Each Track)


Those are all considered classics to lots of people. And lets not forget his own classics. now lets run down the list of artists Quik's brought into rap...

So too sum it up....Dre will always get the vote by majority but if some people would open they're eyes more and take a chance theyd find out theres a whole new sound of music. A sound that is more original... Different and simply amazing... Hell i did. I opened my eyes to Quik and Ive never found better music since. Because of him Ive gone back to an old friend - Funk... And ive been more interested in jazz.(alot of jazz songs sound like Quiks grooves).
