DJ Premier best producer ever?
« on: November 27, 2002, 07:52:53 PM »
I think he's up there...He's got numerous classic Gangstarr albums, and produced classic cuts from Nas to Biggie to Jeru the Damaja...He's at least in the top 3 along with Dre and Quik...

Hell ya.

I put him #2.  He's produced the greatest emcees ever and has so many classics.

Fav tracks:

"Waiting For The World To End" - Rakim
"MCs Act Like They Don't Know" - KRS-One
"Nas Is Like" - Nas
"Boom" - Royce Da 5'9"
"Come Clean" - Jeru Da Damaja
"Unbelievable" - Notorious B.I.G.
"Mass Appeal" - Gang Starr

I could go on for a while.

I think DJ Scratch did that one cause it was on a Guru side projects.  One of the Jazzmatazz albums I think.

Above The Clouds is THE GREATEST HIP-HOP BEAT OF ALL TIME.
Don Jacob Corleone i'm guessing doesn't count him as a producer as he always uses samples, but in case you hadn't noticed he doesn't just sample a beat, he chops it up and puts it into a different order and thats what hip hop is about! Creating new beats with a keyboard or live instruments only came about a few years ago. I'd like to see you produce something better if you think he doesn't produce shit.
Charlie, lost his life right in front of the party...

Jake made a very detailed post ages ago of why he doesn't consider Premo a producer and I can appreciate where he's coming from but he's still one my fav. producer's, Dre being my all time fav. He's put his name to so many classic beats that i'd be a fool not to consider him one of the best. He may not make beats in the same fashion as the likes of Quincy Jones, Dre etc but he's still great....not the best....but still great.

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.

I put him at #4

event hough his new song with redman ripped off truth hurts

How do you figure that?
First off check '87-'88s Coldcut's remix of Eric B. & Rakim's "Paid In Full" (earliest example I know of hip-hop using something similar to this.)

And Just Blaze produced "React"

Yeah, i've always said this. I think "Addictive" did flare it up again though.

It did and I'm sure that Just Blaze was influenced by this song while making the beat to "React".

But I wouldn't say that Erick Sermon ripped off Truth Hurts.

I'll just say Dre/Quik/Premier/Sermon all are legends, and changed the game, some of the best ever, along with others.
