How do I play .mkv files?

Without converting them? And without having to burn them to a disc?

Does anyone here know?

Yeah, it's the best player. Plays almost every file that's out there.

I use shark007 codec pack.  Works like a charm, it plays everything even in Windows Media Center.

VLC should work I believe.

And if that doesn't work I'll re-install VLC. I installed that about 5 years ago.

it comes with ffdshow and mpc-hc (the best player for windows) in an installable pack. with vlc you will experience alot of blocking or artifacts depending on how the mkv (720p or 1080p x264 rips?) are encoded

you'll need to convert it using meGUI (windows) or visualhub (osx)

Yeah, you need to convert it but when you do the quality won't be same.

I use KMplayer, its a great player,plays everything- no problems with it at all. Plays mkv. files great.
