New Source...artists, producers, albums of the year
« on: December 06, 2002, 12:25:31 PM »
Haven't seen a thread for this yet.

No particular order for anything (except Power 30, it's ranked).

Artists of the year:
Nas, Ja Rule, Eminem, Ludacris, Jay-Z, Nelly, Cam'Ron, Fat Joe, Scarface & the Big Tymers

Albums of the year:
Stillmatic, The Fix, Thug Holiday, The Eminem Show, A Gangster and A Gentleman, Watermelon..., Hood Rich, J.O.S.E., Word Of Mouf & The Lost Tapes

Producers of the year:
Neptunes, Mannie Fresh, Kanye West, Just Blaze, Timbaland, "Yellow Man", 7 Aurelius, Trackmasters, Dr. Dre, Alchemist, Megahertz, Jazze Pha, Scott Storch, Bink! & Buckwild

#1 on Power 30: Interscope

I'm not going to list the rest of the stuff, maybe later.

I wouldn't think the Eminem's source bashing would take effect yet but I guess it has since he wasn't on the power 30 at all or the producer list.

Also, I couldn't believe they put Baby on the cover on not Jam Master Jay since this is the issue with his story.

Baby over Jam Master Jay for the cover? What a fuckin' disgrace.

This was definitely Nas' year as an artist.

Yeah for sure, I forgot to mention...quotable of the year Nas' first verse on "One Mic"

And..I know most of y'all like to cry about the mics so here they are:

Jay-Z: 3.5
Gza: 4
Common: 4
WC: 3.5

Happy to see Nas, Em and 'Face in the artists of the year list, well deserved. Same goes for the albums, "The Fix" is still my fav. album of 2002, that could change when I hear the new Nas though  ;)

I also think it was disrespectful of them to give the cover to Baby over JMJ, they should recognise!

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.

Don't they list and order of artists of the year?  Nas should be # one...followed by Em.

"Yellow Man"
aside from Benzino - Rock The Party and I THINK the I Need A Girl Pt 1 & 2 what did Mario Winans aka Yellow Man do to be a "producer of the year"????

They usually put the artist they think had the best year at the front of that section. But I agree with Nas at #1 and Eminem at #2. No one had such a good year musically. Both have improved.
