Were prophets/spiritual leaders simply Schizophrenic ?
« on: May 19, 2010, 06:58:27 AM »
I'm no psychologist/psychiatrist but back in the day people didn't know about mental illnesses that exist. So whose to say Jesus/Mohammed or which ever holy person of that time was mentally stable. Obviously people took them seriously cos they possessed good human characteristics and qualities.

Scizos genuinely believe what's fake is real, so prophets/spiritual leaders must have genuinely believed that angels and other supernatural creations were talking to to them, but little did they realise it was simply an illusion/delusion.

I mean in 2010 if someone came on here and said they spoke to god and that they were the son of god they'd be LOL'd of the forum

God is schizophrenic himself, there is only one God but there is a holy trinity. So it makes sense that the people closest to him were schizo as well.

Anyway, many people experience the process of thought as an inner dialogue.
We know the other voice is us, but did our ancestors know this?
They might've thought God was talking to them.
There was a book published on this but I haven't read it yet.

Another possibility is not being able to tell the difference between (day)dreams & reality.

Overall I think allot of the prophets just used religion to help better the life of the people and could only do so by telling people God said so.
It's a shame that some people abuse it to control the masses.

If anything, the prophets and spiritual leaders are some of the smartest people around and are able to manipulate the emotions of mass amounts of people and their followers are the ones more likely to be schizophrenic. That makes more sense to me, but it could go either way.

i think the question should be; were they even real, or somebody made them up just to control others?

People in the past didn't have knowledge of the unconscious mind, unconscious actions were probably credited to God.
