It's freaking crazy when Bale did it several times but at least he's an actor with big movies. Why in the hell would 50 do this for a film that's likely going straight to dvd...

I'm sure they don't know its going to dvd while they're filming it. Unless its been already planned as a big budget feature, they're probably making it hoping it will turn out  as a great film that audiences will love, and if that happens the studio will put money behind it and market it as a theatrical release.

Actually the two movies bale did it for were straight to dvd films pretty much with almost no promotion.

Yeah, but they were also arthouse films. Unless Fif REALLY REALLY believes in this film I think it's not worth it. Props to him for caring about the craft though.

then again, looking the part is worth nothing if he can't actually act it. From what I've seen of his movies so far,  I have my doubts...  if nothing else this alone will get the movie some attention it wouldn't have otherwise.

hahahahaha that shit has me cracking up. its hard to say if its real or just a skinny look alike, face looks real similiar but his head looks way too long. if its real i bet 50saw some shit on tv about how much praise actors are given for changing their bodies like that for a role and thought if he did it people would take him serious as an actor

Seriously, the hate 50 is receiving is crazy stupid. 

1.  When you film an independent film you're not sure if it will be picked up by a major.

2.  All of the films 50 has been involved in recently is from his own production company Cheetah films (it's actually a joint venture with randall emitt)

This means everything that 50 is doing, if and when it makes money, will be returned directly to him and the individuals involved.  It's called a risk.  Every time you invest you take a risk.

3.  If he's going to want to be taken seriously as an actor do you think he'd half ass it?

I could understand if you thought it said "50 cent turned crackhead, loses his fortunes" but it said he lost weight for a film.  It's not even something worth questioning over.
