Id say Quik brought the funk no doubt.. but Big Hutch brought the P-Funk so my vote goes to him.

None of them brought the 'P' cos nobody brought it pure, it was hip hop funk. The person who brought the most funk to the west was Dre, as he was the one that really brought it to the west and revolutionised it.

p-funk is west coast music, the p stands for parliament  ;)

I voted Dre... he didnt represent it for as long as others but on the efil4zaggin, the chronic and doggystyle he used it almost exclusively.

the "p" or the "west coast" thing?

the p is for parliament...

from http://www.duke.edu/~tmc/motherpage/pfaq.html

What is "P.Funk?"
a) An abbreviation for "Parliament-Funkadelic", the two bands and their offshoots that this discography describes.

b) An abbreviation for "Pure Funk", the kind of music these bands play.

c) The name of a song on the classic album Mothership Connection. "I want the bomb, I want the P.Funk, I wants to get funked up."

d) An abbreviation for "Plainfield (NJ) Funk" the hometown of many of the bands' members and the location of one of George Clinton's hair salons. (this was suggested by Garry Shider)

okay so P has several meanings.. i always think of it as case 'a'

and the old west coast breakin scene out of which our music came always loved loved p-funk and electro. they've always got more love out west IMO

Yeah i know all of that, but normally when you talk about the p-funk it means pure funk.

Does that mean you only meant parliament in your question (not sampling funkadelic)? :-\?

This never came up before. i guess it does mean that. i always associated p-funk with george clinton type shit, people i talk to do. In my mind p-funk has always been a parliament thing

I guess thats been influenced by hearing things like Quik's Keep Tha "P" in It" and I just realised i forgot digital underground who had that album "Sons of the P" all meant to be about parliament-funkadelic.
Ice Cubes oft overlooked production has always been heavily p-funk inspired.

Does it make much diff to the outcome in the end?
