Spike Lee will direct a live webcast of a concert featuring John Legend and the Roots. The concert, to be held in New York on Sept. 23, is the second part of "Unstaged," a live concert series presented by American Express Co. The first was an Arcade Fire concert, whose webcast in August from Madison Square Garden was  directed by Terry Gilliam.

Legend and the Roots will be performing two days after the release of their collaborative album "Wake Up!", which features 11 covers of socially conscious soul songs from the '60s and '70s, including Donny Hathaway's "Little Ghetto Boy," Bill Withers' "I Can't Write Left Handed" and Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes' "Wake Up Everybody."

The live stream will be webcast on Google Inc.-owned YouTube, via the music video website Vevo. Various interactive elements will also be offered, including an option for viewers to select their camera view.

"It's not necessarily a Spike Lee joint," Lee said. "It's a John Legend and the Roots joint."
