State Of The DUB-CC
« on: March 16, 2011, 04:30:35 AM »
Hey look.. its me.. online. posting.. wtf!?  ???

The forum will be moving at some point in the near-ish future to  http://www.dubcnn.com/forum/

The forum will still be called West Coast Connection / DUBCC but it will be.. The West Coast Connection (at DUBCNN)..

So just a bit of joining up really..

While I'm going to spending sometime working the move and sorting it all out.. What changes do we think could be made at the same time?

One thing i've been thinking about is a dedicated forum for 'classic' west coast era stuff.. there are complaints/concerns that too much 'new' west stuff gets lost from the main section, as well as discussions on news updates.. so I figured since the golden era was roughly 15 years ago there should be a place for people appreciating the classics/living in the past. a dedicated death row/ruthless type sub forum.

Cheers.. times at a premium these days.. gearing up to buy a house with my g/f, so i'mma have the space and opportunity to sort out all the CDs, Vinyl and mags that i've got lying around. Been living between two locations for over 3 years now so i've kinda been in a transient mode.

Also, not much of the 'new' west appeals to me, and apart from leaks and cdq releases of stuff like the lbc crew thing nothing much has turned me on really.. (p.s. the new Dre song is booooring)

Seer, blast from the past, it's your homie/rival Infinite!

...anyway, to answer your question, yeah I think it's a great idea to have a section on the forum dedicated to the classic West Coast hip-hop.  I still make a lot of threads and posts about Pac and other legends and posts about rare info/songs from the golden era... sometimes I get responses in those threads with people dissing saying "Who cares.. Pac's dead" or something like that.  So it would be cool if it was known fact that a section of the forum was dedicated to the golden era in West Coast hip-hop

...by the way, I'm still waiting for the day you will merge my new account with my old Infinite59 account

Glad there doesn't seem to be resistance to the idea...

So how should be bracket what goes in there? Pre-millenium? Strictly death row/ruthless?

Where does post snoop row death row fit in? early aftermath?

Just not quite sure where to draw the line... maybe the '2001' album should be 'the line' ?

I think it has to be later than that. I still consider 2003 sill a classic time for the West. D.O.C.'s Deuce, young Roscoes Philaphornia, Bad Azz's album, the 2nd Hittman promo, Welcome to tha Chuuch vol 1 & 2, Nate Dogg's elektra album, Makaveli & Dillinger album, Kurupts against the Grain from DPG + The DPG Unreleased Collection....

I think that the section for the "Old West" should be about rappers who had their careers in the game just before Snoop released Tha Last Meal, since that's what I consider the last of the old west (coarse that's up for debate). The section could not only be for everyone to talk about their favorite songs, albums and artists from back in the day but also for it to contain info on the latest things those OG's are up to. Basicly even discussions on new projects by OG's go in there (like those WideAwake releases, Snoop's new album, Detox, WC's new album etc...)
As for the New West section I'd say only discuss artists who came on the scene post-Sly Boogy or E-White in there. The O.G.'s discussions stay in their section and the B.G.'s stay in theirs.

Simply put, the "Old West section" is home to all discussions on Death Row artists/affiliate discussions (which is like the only thing most people on here discuss) and the "New West section" is home to discussions on the Game, Jay Rock, Young Maylay, Lil B, etc....

^ i was already writing my reply.. but basically.. for slightly different reasons i've ended up in the same place... 2005/2006.

well.. really.. the only classic era is before pac's death?  bit of a generalisation I know, but shit fell off til 2001 came out after that.

probably the last major album to fall into the 'old' thjing would be top dogg?

I figured using 2001 as a dividing line also fits in with the fact that the OG members of the forum here met on the dre2001 forum in 1999 (remmeber 2001 came out in nov 1999) ... so using the 2001 album (or the turn of the millenium) makes sense. it'd put things like 'thy kingdom come' as being old.. but 2001 and beyond as being 'new'... so 2001 itself, DOCs album,

that does seem a bit early to draw the line  though.....

So... what about 2005? .. with Game's first album / Guerilla black not falling under the 'old' banner?

I dont see any reason why?

The reason has been outlined, and backed up.

It means that NEW music and discussion of current events will rule in the main section, the 'new' section will take everything pre 'The Documentary'.. meaning people can rave above The Chronic, Doggstyle, 2Pac, Death Row, Ruthless. People still discover this music, and discussion of it should be encouraged.

Bit of a gray area are the releases of old material like the LBC Crew stuff.. but i figure its part of history and isn't going to represnet the current west.

Sounds fine.

Can I suggest something regarding the 'off topic' areas of the site. When you click 'Show unread posts since last visit' can the off 'Socialistic' areas not show up in those results? Is that possible to code?
