When did Rick Ross get so good?

I hate stating that being such a big fan of 50.  I've always admitted his production is fire and that he knows what sound works for but always critiqued him as less than average MC vocally.  Some thing has changed.  Is this my ears or has he stepped up?

Two examples,

This duke done become a picture painter.  Both verses are ill.  Content wise especially reminds me of 50 spitting on Hate It Or Love It.    50 also came correct on that Pusha T track.

Ross can bring some heat. Though his flow can get boring, same with his subject matter. Luckily he has a great ear for beats, they definitely carry him through his albums imo.

Action you're right, his lyrics are on point, I enjoy his fat-boy style vocals and adlibs that are sometimes comical, and his beat selection is impeccable.

Just the two tracks I spoke of, everybody has listened to them? 

He sounds dope to me on both of those.  There's definitely a lot worse vocally.  (It doesn't justify his subpar vocals, if that's what they are.)  These two tracks are different to me.,
