In his defence, he does have some cool punchlines, and I like some of the hooks he does. But I really can't listen to a lot of him, he gets repetitive, plus he can sound annoying as hell. He also does gets outshone on a lot of the songs I hear him on.

Like most popular artists, he's at once overrated and then hated on too much.  Both examples are perfectly demonstrated here.  The topic creator is clearly overrating lil wayne (by exaggerating his skills) while some of you are straight hating on him ("he has no substance" argument is a great example of hating).   Every song has substance even when the substance is nothing at all & just pure free flow rhyming.  Whether you appreciate it or not is another issue.   Even when you define substance as content that is meaningful, he even has that and you can just look at The Carter 3 to find it.

6 Foot 7 Foot is dope but his newest single with Ross is embarrassing.  It's more or less a recycled beat and the feature, Rick Ross, treats it exactly like that.  It isn't impressive at all by anyone involved.

what I don't get about weezy fans is that a lot of them praise his earlier work saying he was better back then.....but he's actually way better now then he was during the Cash Money Millionaire days. Yes he sometimes says more retarded shit, but back then he was the least interesting rapper in a crew full of average-at-best rappers. At least now he has some personality.

But as an artist he's ill to me. Minues Rebirth and a few songs on Carter III, I like pretty much his whole catalogue. Very entertaining artist.

There are some that come close but none are as sick overall.  Weezy's an empire, a genius, and a rock star.  I hope this doesn't sound like some groupie thread but Wayne is ALWAYS hated on.  "Tha Carter IV" is gonna rock and "6 Foot, 7 Foot" is the best single of the year so far in my opinion.  I mean honestly, what can u say bad about Weezy?  Kissing a man on the lips is his business (not that i'm kosher with it) but it don't take away tha fact that dude would lyrically rip Biggie (yes i said it)
