I know cats who are all about 93-94 because loads of the top classics came out those years, but 96 wasn't that great in comparison.
Though it was the last pretty dope year before everything kind of went to shit.

^^^ Exactly.  See you just said it.  93-94 were dope, and things kept building and building and then I see the Summer of 96 as the peek or climax.  Then 2pac is murdered and like you said "everything kind of went to shit".

That's what was happening in hip-hop and my own personal life was running parallel to all of that.   So you have in 96 the ying and the yang, the good and the bad, the rise and the fall.  So anything that has happened to me good or bad since then kind of relates back to 1996 for me.   In fact I experienced things in that year that were so over the top and deep that I am still only coming to fully realization years later.

Nothing wrong with reminiscing about your favorite years past but to define yourself by a year is sad on so many levels.  No wonder your maturity is severely stunted.
