Kwanza

I wuz jus curious if any of you celebrate kwanza an if so what is tha point of it,  instead of presents dont they give out wicker baskets,  can some1 give me tha one down on kwanza

Obviously I'm white so I don't celebrate it..... but for anyone interested....I'll shed some light on the subject....

Kwanzaa is a Black American holiday wich celebrates Black culture through Afrocentric heritage.  It was first founded by Dc. Maulana Karenga of Cal State.

The holiday revolves around the number 7.  It lasts 7 days , Dec. 26th to Jan. 1rst, there are seven principles and seven symbols, they are unity, self-determination, responsiblity, support of black business, purpose, creativity, and faith.  And then they have seven symbols such as candles, vegetables, and corn (representing children)... the candles are in red, black, and green, because those are the colors that Marcus Garvey created for the American flag.... They pour out libations in remembrance of ancestors passed.  And pass out gifts on the final day.  Each day they tell a story of their ancestors that reflects a lesson.


** Kwanzaa is often celebrated in addition to Christmas and Hannakah  **

Im Black and i dont celebrate it...& have no clue what-so-ever about what it is...I think it's a certain African Religion that celebrates it...I guess whites could if they wanted...But i'd be pretty pissed if i gotta damn basket for a present...LOL...

Naw it ain't a certain African religion, it's just African American's that celebrate it in general.
