Yeah, let's not talk about Lady Gaga; she's wack & living. 8)

Why do the good ones always die?

So far that hasn't been the case with Gaga. She will live into her hundreds, I expect.

She was a thief, a racist and a junkie. She had 2 albums, and her 2 biggest hits "rehab" & "vallerie" were jacked from other artists. I like how the net shows nothing of the original artists who wrote and performed those songs

Granted, she was a terrific singer, but as a human and artist, she was average, but now she's dead, she'll be over-hyped as one of the greats of her time, and all because she won a buynch of awards at a time when labels wanted to revive motown and the industry was pretty poor

Who are they?

A black women wrote rehab (can't remember her name), and The Zutons wrote Vallerie. There may be others, but I'm not a Winehouse fan. Those 2 being her biggest hits and what she's most renowned for in her music career doesn't say a lot about her credentials as an 'artist'!

the zutons are shit anyway and that was recorded specifically for a covers album. judging someone on their singles alone is dumb as hell

You're right, her huge catalogue of 2 albums - The combined 23/24 tracks of her career is what I should judge her on... She had about 12 singles. That's half of her entire catalogue

Nah, she wrote Rehab.

As far as artistic credentials, most big pop stars don't write their own music. Elvis Presley didn't write any of his music. Most of MJs hits were written by other people.

Haha yeh you got me on that one. I knew when writing about her 2 albums that somebody would mention Biggie. I guess the difference with Biggie is that because he was in Hip Hop, he was able to showcase his talents on a lot more platforms than Winehouse through rappin' on the corner, concerts before he broke through, freestyles and appearances, which in Hip Hop was commonplace.

It does state Winehouse wrote the Rehab song, but it was really written 2 years prior, which is surprising considering the relevance it's has to the album title that the track appeared on. It will 'officialy' state she wrote the song though, even more so now than ever given the circumstances surrounding her death

The song mentions her album title. It's been stated to be about a real situation in her life. And there's zero evidence that she didn't write it. To claim that someone else wrote it is just blind wishful thinking on your part. You obviously have something against the girl.

Sad tragedy.  Wasn't into her music.  Wasn't much of a surprise that she died young.

A black women on channel 5’s news count years back, about her filing a suit against Island records surrounding the songs original writer. I guess she was paid off, because nothing’s been said ever since, apart from Tom Brennick at the time hinting at it. He taught her how to improve her guitar playing during the studio sessions so he’d be more likely to know whether or not she wrote it

I have nothing against Amy Winehouse. I’m just stating that she may be over-rated as an artist. Her, and the likes of Duffy – another ‘authentic’ artist were only pushed by Universal at a time when the re-cycled compilations of Motown and other 70’s soul/jazz were doing surprisingly well in 2006/07. It’s no revelation that both of them were the top runners for the majority of the awards at the time

As a fan of Hip Hop you should be the first to know that writing credits are not always correct. Just look at The Dogg Food album,. It’s just my thoughts, based on what’s been put out there already. I just think she was an already available/signed artist who fitted the mold perfectly to run with the motown revival mission Universal had at the time, it’s not hard to believe that she may have been spoon fed at times to congeal that ‘original, authentic’ image
