Why posters here "hate" so much Jay Z anyways ? I stop checking for his music after the Black album but he had some great material between 1996 and 2003 , some act like he's on Souljah Boy level ..
Overdose of the 'hate' term.

Jayz is greater then I thought and y'all know he was rhyming when ra was in his heyday and he still keeps at least a Milli people interested in his work. And his true greatness is people who don't really like em making threads in hope he doesn't come out on top. Now thats great. Who I prefer RA really doesn't matter cause this post is all about jigga yell

I say jigga the best living rapper but i respect what rakim and krs 1 and koolgrap all did/do.

thats y i made this thread

but my favs is pac and biggie and big L....then DOC
I respect that my equal yell

ring finger says, to don't pursue it,the "k-9" in me says
"ain't-nothing-to-it, but-to-do-it"/
but if we bang and i get caught OH-BOY-YA!/

It's hard to compare them. Rakim was way more of an innovator and the best of his time when he came out. But he's also a one-trick pony who only excelled at "rapping about rapping", and did his best work as part of a duo. Jay-Z was never the absolute best in the game at any point in his career, but has lasted longer and has a better discography and just way more quality songs in general. I don't like putting Jay ahead, but I'd have to. Rakim's better at rapping, but more limited, and Jay-Z's better at making music.

Have to disagree. Jay is basically that artist where people will go out of their way to discredit his talents as a rapper. At least, two come to mind recently. His music ain't always my cup of tea but I can't deny him his credit.
