Rapper 'Killa Keise' slain

Bay Area rapper Markeise "Killa Keise" Henry of Benicia was gunned down just before midnight Thursday as he was driving along Interstate 80 in Vallejo.

Henry was found inside a Pontiac that had crashed into trees and bushes on the shoulder of Interstate 80, police said. He appears to have been driving alone in his car when he was shot multiple times, said Vallejo police Detective Mat Mustard and Sgt. Joe Iacono.

Vallejo police don't believe Henry was the random victim of a long-distance sniper, but killed by someone firing from another vehicle that pulled alongside, Lt. Lee Horton said.

Iacono said California Highway Patrol officers and the Vallejo Fire Department had responded to what was initially reported at 11:58 p.m. as a traffic collision on eastbound I-80. They found the vehicle in the bushes on the highway shoulder between Vallejo's Tennessee Street and Redwood Parkway.

An agreement between the Vallejo Police Department and the California Highway Patrol shifts homicide and other serious crime investigations involving state highways to Vallejo investigators, Vallejo police Lt. Lee Horton said.

Inside the crashed vehicle, responders found Henry, who had received a number of gunshot wounds to his upper body, and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

No suspects had been arrested in the case as of late Friday, police said. Mustard said police were not yet ready to reveal further details and would not

comment on whether he was known by his assailant or had been a random victim.

Iacono said that the Vallejo Police Department's Major Case Squad and Crime Suppression Unit were called to investigate and have interviewed known witnesses.

The homicide was the city's 13th in 2011, and the first since Aug. 7, when Joseph Maes Pittier, 28, was shot to death in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant following a fight.
