Rappers and their muses (inspirations)
« on: January 04, 2012, 12:31:48 PM »
Eminem- his baby mama Kim.

Even his best song of last year was "Where I'm At" with Loyd Banks, that was his first banger in a while.  Back in his prime he was still brooding over his love/hate for Kim and that's why he was at his best then.

Snoop-  His days as a Rolling 20 Crip

If you read Snoops autobiography he speaks fondly about his time as a Rolling 20 Crip, and he used those experience to propel gangsta rap to worldwide prominence in the mid-90's

Warren G-  his childhood/teenage years with Snoop and Nate.

Warrens greatest songs like "This DJ" and so much of the material from his albums consists of reminiscing about his days coming up with Snoop and Nate in Long Beach

2pac-  his childhood poverty

It's clear Pac's childhood poverty always served as an inspiration to him.  It allowed him to be deeply empathetic to the plight of the less fortunate and disenfrachised people.

Nas-  His coming of age in Queensbridge

Nas is that rapper writing from a project window in Queens just looking out and writing legendary tales about everyday folks around the way.

...I'll write up some more later

what´s the name of the autobiography?

It came out Christmas time 99'.  It has the same name as his second album - Doggfather-

Excellent read.  His stories about the his experiences as a Crip and the few years leading up to his meeting with Dr. Dre are certainly a highlight of the book.

what other biographies have you read?  The good ones I've read are...

1.  Doggfather-  Times and Trials and Hardcore Truths of Snoop Dogg
2.  Holler If You Hear Me-  2pac- Written by Michael Eric Dyson
3.  Life and Def- Russel Simmons biography

I think that's all I can remember off the top of my head, but I'm sure I've read a few more artist biographies.  But I would recommend all three of those, they are excellent.

throughout the years i´ve been reading a lot of books about music.

Right now i´m reading Ray Charles´ autobiography published in 1978

off the dome i can´t name half  of them

Some book about Tupac, can´t recall the name
Eminem
Beastie Boys
Public Enemy
Run DMC
A few books about the underground scenes in different places
(there were some others, don´t remember now)

to get a better view on an era or genre i like to read books written about some particular era or towns where certain musical genres started . and i do read books about some bands i don´t even listen to .  i just like to know how some things started .   it´s a part of my job too , kinda .

some non rap biographies

a few Bob Marley books
a Peter Tosh biography
Lee Perry ( the crazy Jamaican producer who´s had a hand in everything in reggae in the 60s-70s )
a lot of books about reggae in general .

The Dirt by Mötley Crüe and Marilyn Manson´s autobiography were funny as hell .
Keith Richards
The Beatles
Metallica
Marianne Faithfull
Sex Pistols (punk in general)
Red Hot Chili Peppers´ vocalist Anthony Kiedis autobiography "Scar Tissue"
Ozzy Osbourne / Black Sabbath books
Lords Of Chaos  ( about the crazy norwegian black metal scene,  )
Robert Johnson
Johnny Cash
Hanoi Rocks
James Brown
Some books about early Funk

next i´ll be reading about Fela Kuti . That Russell Simmons book sounds interesting too, gotta see if i can find it .

i shouldn´t post high,lol ... i can´t remember anything

I don't really think anybody should do or say anything because really you've done and seen it all. So the world should really just end.
