Thoughts on new "official" 50 Cent
« on: February 06, 2003, 04:38:18 PM »
Okay take away the fancy cd cover, the DVD, and Eminem and Dre's name and you have nothing more than an average rap album with three or four outstanding tracks.  I already have seen "classic" status being thrown around here somewhere.  Classics are determined over time and not on the first listen.  I guarantee in 3 weeks that cd will have played itself out and be on the shelf with all our other decent cd's.  There's just not enough substance on this album to seperate it from the norm.  Beside's "In Da Club" Dre's production is pretty monotone and stagnant. Eminem, besides "Patiently Waiting" brings nothing new or exciting to this album.  His production and co-production did not live up to his ability or my expectations.  So in short a good album......not great, not terrible.  What do you all think?

ok, a lot of people probably think i'm a 50 hater but i listened to this album with an open mind.... honestly! but i'm sorry, it's terrible, it's got dre's worst beats yet, and eminem already sucked as a producer, and 50 is just a plain bad rapper, he's sayin nothin more than any other gangsta rapper from the pat 15 years

just my thoughts, don't hate

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

I bought it today and I was a little disapointed with the first listen but it is growing on me a bit.  I'll think it'll end up as a 8/10.  Dre's production on this is great.  One thing I was looking forward to was the skit with the gay hairdresser Ja Rule supposedly fucked.  Don't tell me that was him at the end of "Back Down" cause that just sucked.  If 50 paid $50 000 for that he's a retard.

I can't believe I dropped my discman after listening to it once and fucked up the CD...track 12 & 13 are fucked in parts.   >:(

The album is tight but the mixtape shit is way better,  Dre is sooo over rated right now.  that gun beat is horrific, and if I cant does not even fit fifty.  But at the same time I think the best tracks are Back down and in da club also what up gangsta?  The album is good does not live up to the hype

honestly I think its a solid album from start to finish, not classic but better than many albums that have come out recently come out, the Dre tracks are definitely not his best but his style is a little different now ;D

Damn, a lot of 50 topics on here today...

Anyway...

It's a good album. It has some totally killer joints like "Heat", "In Da Club", If I Can't", and some unnecessary filler like "Blood Hound", "Like My Style" & "21 Questions"... It varies in quality throughout... overall a solid release, even if it may seem rushed. Dre lied when he said it was gonna be a hip-hop classic along with Illmatic and MMLP, but then again crafting a classic with so little time is almost impossible for any artist, so what could you expect... it's still a tight album.

4 mics for me.
