50 Cent is currently one of the hottest acts in music. The rapper released his highly anticipated Shady Records/Aftermath Entertainment debut, Get Rich Or Die Tryin', on Thursday (February 6). The set is expected to debut at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart with only a weekend's worth of sales.

An even greater indication of how hot the rapper has been of late is the success of his 2002 independent release, Guess Who's Back? The album, which is Number 28 on the Billboard 200, doesn't feature any of the rapper's current radio hits, which include "In Da Club," "Wanksta," and his collaboration with the late Notorious B.I.G., "The Realest N--ga."

Guess Who's Back? also features guest appearances from Nas, the Bravehearts, and UGK, and it sold more than 30,000 copies last week. Since the set was released independently,50 Cent earns approximately $5 for each copy sold. To date the release has sold 202,000 copies according to Nielsen Soundscan.

Yeah, on a major you get nowhere near that much.  Usually you get like 2 bucks a cd or less.  There was a bunch of contraversy in 92 because Michael Jackson signed a deal with sony where he got 4 bucks a cd, at the time it was the most any artist was paid on a major.  Peace~

^^ Yup, and a lot of times, they charge the artist for recording the album, studio time, promotion, etc. and subtract that off their 1 dollar or whatever.  Courtney Love of Hole swears up and down she owed like a million bucks to the record company after her first 2 albums.
