Woman Claims R. Kelly Sexually Assaulted Her In Studio

As R. Kelly's Chocolate Factory was hitting store shelves this week, the singer was being hit with new allegations of sexual abuse, this time from a 24-year-old woman who said he assaulted her in a Chicago recording studio Tuesday.

Police said they're investigating the complaint, but the Cook County state's attorney's office, which is currently preparing for trial on Kelly's 21 counts of child pornography (see "R. Kelly Arrested On 21 Counts Of Child Pornography"), said no charges have been filed.

"Coming as they did on the same day R. Kelly released what is likely to be the most successful album of his career," a spokesperson for Kelly said in a statement Wednesday, "these supposed charges amount to nothing more than an outrageous and blatant attempt at character assassination. The fact is that Kelly did not assault anyone or engage in any improper behavior yesterday or any day, and he is confident that an impartial investigation will confirm that."

The spokesperson said police had not contacted Kelly nor his lawyers regarding the matter.

Kelly's ongoing controversy doesn't appear to be affecting his standing at the cash register. First-day sales of Chocolate Factory suggest the singer will be battling 50 Cent for the top slot on next week's Billboard chart, as Kelly appears on track to sell more than 700,000 copies of his new one this week.
