None, they all added something different. This whole idea that Hip-Hop was some great conscience music is a complete load of BS. The first radio song was a song three guys bit from another group with a beat taken straight out of a disco song, and the song was made to dance. The next big Hip-Hop song was about basketball and the biggest artist of the time made singles about their Adidas. The only artist back then spitting knowledge was Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five's Melle Mel, and even then most their songs were on some party and dance subjects.

So I guess with that, I vote New York. But not with all the biting now, but New York ruined it pre-1986.

there is no way New York could have ruined since they invented it .hip hop was originally about partying .  it has to be another region for it to be ruined . they region that ruined it was the south aka ATL & new orleans . but you are half right about new york being part of it  .biggie & puffy started the down fall then cash money helped finish it. we also can't forget the fans & main stream who listen to wack ass music like puffy, cash money , ja rule after the first album , & D4L, Shawty Lo, snap music. We also have to thank society for becoming a scared little bitch that rather blank out everrything bad life & pretend like it is not .  society rather be in denial then face reality & be conscience.

When I was growing up in the early 90's, and I had my westcoast tapes, my older cousins were talking about how wack Coolio and Domino were and how Rob Bass and Public Enemy shits on them. Every older generation thinks their music was better and somewhere between their time listening to music and now, someone or somewhere fucked it up. What's the difference between some of the shit that plays now and 2 Live Crew or Gucci Crew II (yes that was an 80's group with a hit song) or Tone-Loc. People act like everyone was digging Poor Righteous Teachers when they only had one hit and it was called Butt Naked Booty Bliss. MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice were the most popular artist while Public Enemy was dropping classics. Things ain't change, we only remember what we want to. You can't tell me I Got 5 On It was a great lyrical classic, or that the Luniz had any hits afterwards. Saying Hip-Hop is ruined is to deny people like Kendrick Lamar or J.Cole or Lupe don't exist. To say Kanye West ruined Hip-Hop is to act like College Dropout didn't exist and it's to ignore that for the last 10 years the hottest tracks have said produced by Kanye West. Nothing's change but the quality of the recordings.

Lol at Europe is Active...

Yeah I'm gonna go with STL. Mostly cuz of Nelly, but also cuz of that other guy in the st. Lunatics that always wore a Jason mask sideways on his head. I wanted to slap that shit off his face about 13 years ago and I still do.

I don't like Nelly much at all, think he's horrible. But if Nelly ruined Hip-Hop then that's an insult to the great artist of today. Besides, KRS-One played him. Ironically KRS-One did the same move as Nelly did 15 years earlier. Nelly joined the Hip-Hop cycle, I don't like him but I ain't gonna say he ruined Hip-Hop.

What about puffy with the shiny suits and flashing rolexes in videos.
What about ja rule turning hip hop into r&b ( so many rappers in love on the radio)
Cash money with the bling bling faze.
Nelly is 2000 version of LL cool j but at least LL made some real hip hop records to go with his résumé.
Lil Jon deffenatley dumbed down lyrics and screaming obsenery on records.
A lot of one hit wonders came from the south with catchy beats and hooks with no real content, just straight bull shit.
You could also throw the west in their for introducing LA gang culture and spreading that shit around the world that got everyone thinking their some kind of straight up G. Right OG Will B? Double OG classic? Lol

LOL... Nelly had more to do with it than George Bush and the banks and government policy all put together. LOL

Because this didn't help turn Hip-Hop into R&B
