Why the Catholic Church hasn't kicked paedos out

I'm not supporting them, I'm just explaining.

Bernard Law was tipped to become Pope; that is, befor ehe protected a pervert. Why did he commit career suicide?

Because the Catholic Church has reaped what it sowed for a long time now. It's been persecuted. It feels paranoid and insular. It no longer trusts the state to prosecute it fairly; it also believes God is the only being that can judge a certified priest.

Therefore, it pretends the problem is purely internal, and deals with it itself. However, this doesn't work, as we have seen.
