You have to be pretty fucking lame to not think this is a solid/dope album, even if you don't think it's great.

i havent given it a full listen, ill admit.

but i never equated a state of lamness with not enjoying jay z ramble on and repeat the same cliches about wealth, wealth, and more wealth.

You don't have to like the content, but it's delivered in a dope manner.

Lyricism isn't just about content. He's just a boring lyricist IMO.

Jay put in as much effort on this as Busta did on Year of the Dragon. No artist is gonna put their best work into a corporate thing

Having said that I'm amazed it's coming out on hardcopy. Samsung's $$$ are well spent.

Agreed, I like plenty of Jay-Z songs and I think he's a good rapper overall, but never really understood why he's compared to all the greats.

this album is definitely well above Kingdom Come, Blueprint 3, both R. Kelly collab albums, and 75% of Blueprint 2 lyrically lol

Jay said himself it's his 4th best album behind Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint and The Black Album. All of which are pretty widely considered to be classics.

That's why he's compared to greats because he has three classics. Only other people with more than one are Tupac, Big, Em, Nas and a few select other greats lol.

Question:

I've never been a big Jay-Z fan, but I do like some of his catchy songs a lot. Should I download this album or would that be a waste of time for me?

Maybe not a waste of time, but its only the quality of stuff you'd hear on the radio.

Absolutely nothing on there worth going back to IMO
