Jay Z isn't a rapper. It's a "brand". Like someone said previously, he is the result of very good marketing. He has became one of the 3 factors in modern black urban culture. Those are:

1) Basketball
2) Hip Hop
3) Jay Z

It's seen as fashionable to like one of the above. People are blindly led by fashion. It's what separates the masses of sheep from the real people. Just look at the idiots you get wearing beats headphones. Ask them why they purchased beats headphones over other ones on the market and see their response. Or those taking selfies with "apple" iphones to show off the apple logo and show the world they have an iphone. Ask them why they wanted an iphone over others on the market. Jay Z has been marketed in the same way. Average rapper, with sometimes some good lines, but not good enough to be sat at the top or overpriced, but he's sat there overhyped just like Apple, beats, or any other brand. Beyonce (hot female) brought in to solidify the brands "magnetic promotive" abilities. More people bought into the "Jay Z" brand when they found that big ugly big lipped man could pull such a hot female.

The scam has worked well. Beyonce answers to the same masters her fake "on-screen" husband answers to. Don't get fooled people
