Difference between NY and LA is in the number of cats who rap. Since the culture originated in NY, you will have a million cats in NY trying to rap. The bank teller raps. The fucking liquor store owner raps. The fucking carnicero raps. Of course many of them on a high level. LA on the other hand has less dudes as a whole. But in terms of QUALITY, we can compete with anyone from a lyrical standpoint. Ny might have 2 million dudes trying to rap compared to LA's 500k but we have quality that can kill anyone from any fucking region...point blank.

Crooked, Kurupt, Ras Kass, Xzibit etc. can spit with anyone

but the veterans on the west (Dre, Snoop, Cube etc) would get slaughtered by east coast contemporaries (Kool G Rap, Rakim, Nas etc)
exclude crooked I he is garbage.

WTF did you just say lol?? I'm just going to assume, you don't like Crooked ha.
nothin' to do wit liking him his music just don't appeal to me.
That's cool. I was just trippin because you said he was garbage. That's 100% false ha. You may not like the guy but his skill are undeniable.
that's debatable but if you like it that's cool.
What's debatable? Whether he's got skills or not lol? C'mon homie, let's be serious here. It's cool if you don't like him or his style but there's no debate. You say shit like that around some real hip hop heads, they're going to think you're stupid, my dawg. Really though ha. I'd keep comments like that to myself. Real talk ha

west coast music is simply just much more enjoyable than east coast shit, end of story

I don't agree, but I understand where it comes from with classic production from guys like Dre, Quik & Johnny J.

But as rappers, pure lyricists, the East greats are so much better.

thing is, lyricism in the west compared to the east nowadays doesnt really have much of a difference...if we were in the 80s, yea, but nowadays, there are just as many (if not more) lyrical cats out west than there is in the east. in fact, one could argue the best lyricists nowadays are from out west. even on a commercial scale, kendrick is at the front of the line when it comes to spittin lyrics.
Indeed. The West has it right now. But on the real, comparing lyricist is pointless now a days. There's a shit load of great lyricist. It would be impossible to say who's the best. It would come down to preference.

Bro, we're talking about his SKILLS on the MIC, ya dig?? You not liking his album, has nothing to do with his abilities on the MIC. I'm talking strictly SKILLS. You said he was garbage. That doesn't even make sense.

West lyrically can't hang either. But I expect it from a West Coast forum lol.

The battle between the East and West is always "we have better lyrics" vs "we have better beats."

Are dudes like G Rap, Slick Rick, KRS and Rakim better lyricists than Snoop, Short, E-40 and the like? Of course. But, Hip Hop isn't just about the lyrics. If that was the case, guys like Canibus would be considered the Greatest. What it boils down do is discography. Not sales. Not individual verses or beats. The end product. I love KRS, 1 of the favorite emcees of all time. But, while he may destroy Snoop on the mic in a battle, he has never made an album as good as Doggystyle.

Also, when I think of emcees, it's more about what they're saying than how they're saying it. Ghostface, Scarface and Ice Cube to me are probably 3 of the best emcees ever lyrically and as a whole. They've put together some memorable verses and great albums. To me, the debate in music should never just boil down to who has the best lyrics or best beat. While I love guys like Ras Kass, Crooked I, Canibus & Chino XL, they do not have the ability to make lasting music. A hot verse here and there, but tell them to put together 13 Songs and they crumble.

Scarface + Geto Boys. Three 6 Mafia. UGK. Outkast. Goodie Mob. 8-Ball & MJG. Screwed Up Click. 2 Live Crew.

These are all legends. The South has A LOT of rich history and depth.

i also forgot the roots, tribe called quest, gang starr, jedi mind tricks, Edo G and the bull dogs etc.

See, at that point, if we're adding Ed O, JMT, hell even Canibus, Chino and Lox, now we're just talking regional legends rappers.

I wouldn't come here and throw out names like Pastor Troy, Lil Keke, Fat Pat, etc.

A true Hip Hop will have a ton of influence on rappers from any region.

Underground Hip Hop sure..

But, if we're talking Hip Hop as a whole and not sub genres, Canibus isn't known well outside of the East.
