i think for his work on scarfaces diary and untouchable alone that should put him on the level of an elite producer. alot of ppl knock him for his work with daz and his persona he displayed on dpg as a mod lol he was banning ppl etc but that has no bearing on his work as a producer. through the years i dont think i really knew how much of mike deans music i was listening to until he got with daz and i took notice to his name.

i thought he was just a mixer for rap alot didnt know he reads music plays mad instruments and does multi genre shit.

he put out his boy sherms album called sherm smoke and that things was a fucking disaster...i mean a really droll album. anyways whats yalls view point on mike dean? he used to a have a section at my old forum he ran around the time him and kanye were doing the glow in the dark tour and weve conversed recently in emails and im thinking about trying to get him to contribute to a site or blog or something. probably take the idea to my dudes at TSS or something.

Blood$

under-rated as hell for The Diary and Untouchable alone

Personally I wouldn't call him a legend but he's one of the only big name producers I hear about still innovating and keeping a balance of artistic integrity and hit maker

Talented all rounder who's staying fresh even after years in the game

big name ? he isn't know outside rap circles, even some rap fans don't know who he is, just the fact that petey who is a knowledgeable rap fan and has been for decades didn't really know of his contributions until his work with Daz (i.e. way past his prime) speaks volumes. dude is criminally low key despite having a monster résumé. a big name producer is Cool & Dre, Just Blaze, RZA, Mannie Fresh or the trackmasters but not fucking mike dean lol.

to me he qualifies as a legend for his extensive body of work over two decades and also the fact that he helped pioneer the dirty south genre, his contributions on seminal and classic albums by the likes of Scarface and all the rap a lot acts (big mike, fifth ward boys, blac monks, 3-2, pimp c, menace clan), and even today's productions for Kanye West (Devil in a New Dress is a "mini-masterpiece" ;)) not only that he's also an accomplished musician and the guy has a crazy catalogue.

id been very familiar with him through out the rap a lot cat a log but i thought he was just a inhouse engineer type dude...the first time i really started to check for him though was way before daz it was on the beat mary jane...that beat imo is one of the top ten beats ever made in this genre EVER. i thought it was very wierd that dude was so interactive on dpg as he used to be....i assumed even on dilinger and young gotti he was still doing more of an engineer type role as at this time i actually believed daz was a somewhat competent producer come to find out dean was actually the heart of that albums whole sound hes like the gangsta rap rick rubin or some shit.

Regional Legend. In the South, off the top of my head, he's Top 5.

LMAO at your over the top response :)

I meant 'big name', as opposed to 'no name' producer. And I'm talking about to people who actually read the credits on albums aka music nerds

Mike Dean should not even be on any "greatest" list.  Unless it is a list for "greatest assholes" of rap music, for him joking about stealing reals and shit from Death Row.  Wish Suge would have beat his ass for that.  Who is Mike Dean to steal from Death Row?
