50 Cent still doesn't even know who DJ Quik is, word to Nima

Game 50 Cent DJ Quik AOL Sessions

Here's what 50 said back in 2005:

Quote
dubcnn.com: Would you consider signing DJ Quik as an artist or producer?

DJ Quik?

dubcnn.com: I know he's working with Game...

Yeah he works with Game... but I'm not really interested in that...

dubcnn.com: That would be some shit though, to hear you flowin' over some funky DJ Quik beats..

Over some Quik beats huh... Yeah... It's a possibility... We might make music and make records together.

He definitely sounds like he doesn't know who Quik is, might have heard his name because he was Game's DJ, but it sounds like he doesn't actually know his music.

Actually, this is what 50 cent always sounds like. Most of his comments have a little bit of a retarded and confused sound to them.

He knows who Quik is, he just is surprised by the suggestion. And 50's statements often come out like questions.

on another note I just remembered Quik was on Ludacris' Red Light District album at the time Luda was on top of the world, so I'm sure he could have gotten close to that 100K there too

That beat was actually not produced by Quik tho. Might as well have been tho, they swagger jacked the shit out of his signature sound.

50 is actually one of the more intelligent rappers in the game. I think he was just appalled at the question. I mean you're the biggest artist in the industry and somebody asks you about working with someone who's basically a local artist. He was probably thinkin wtf...next question lol.

GRODT and Documentary sound like stretches to me... Quik might have mixed one or two songs on Game's album but not 50's

50 Cent still doesn't even know who DJ Quik is, word to Nima

No, this is valid. Dr Dre either had Quik do work on a project and he was paid for it, or had a huge critical input in the project towards the end. No, I am not a huge DJ Quik fan, but the above is true. GRODT has Quik all over it (just listen to 'under the Influence') This is why he had a lot of money during and after 2003, and why he didn't have a lot going on, because he was doing a lot of work for Aftermath

the song is produced by LT Moe, not Quik. Quik didn't have much clout left in the industry at the time, and he wasn't really sought after, I'm sure Luda put him on the album cause he liked Quik and wanted him to be on his album, but by 2004 I doubt Quik's beats were still worth 100 grands, in 1999 maybe, but not 2004. either way it's a classic song in my book, the luda version more than the pacific coast remix;

we know about GRODT because quik talked about it, several times. not that he fully produced on there, but there was 'ghost production' type input in the sounds and mixing/engineering of those records. potentially very significant contributions in terms of the final sound. the documentary on the other hand, not sure?...

This information was directly from Eric Coomes who had worked with Quik originally after Balance & Options. I believe El Debarge introduced him to Quik (But don't quote me on that) Apparently he was later involved with Jay Z, Game and the Aftermath camp along with DJ Quik, so Quik's production team were heavily involved in a lot of the Aftermath projects around that time.

The reason for the lack of credits can be down to a number of reasons.

yeah and so did Pharell, Timbo and them super producers, which is legitimate since they were able to sell a lot just by putting their names on a track, whereas Quik never had that type of mainstream/commercial appeal.

Quik also spent $140 grand on a single Bun B verse lol. but it's nothing compared to Erick Sermon spending $200 grands on a Rick Ross verse for his mixtape (which was part of his budget nonetheless) when he probably didn't pay for Rick Ross when he spit on his Erick Onasis album in 1999 lol.

wow I never knew that actually lol I'm more used to hearing the Pacific Coast remix since I own Trauma and not Luda's album but I remember hearing that version first back in 8th grade when I knew very little of Quik and I just assumed he produced the track since I knew of him as more of a producer

yeah and this song clearly has Quik's signature sound (or an imitation for that matter), always loved the back & forth between Quik & Luda, it's not your average rap collabo where they trade verses with no real interaction and musical chemistry

I have a hard time believing Bun B charges that much especially during these times, dude has been on so many songs over the years and I'm willing to bet 75% did NOT pay what Quik claims he did... and no disrespect to Bun but he hasn't even had a verse that "wow"d me like that in awhile

maybe for some rappers he'll do a verse for a verse like E-40 and them used to do back in the days
