2Pac - Remix better than original, one example
« on: September 08, 2014, 08:37:28 AM »
One of not many examples that remix was actually better than original version. My Block - beat made by Easy Mo Bee is just fuckin wack and boring. First I couldn't believe that he did this. Frank Nitty did great job on Better Dayz along wit Johnny J

The Better Days version of My Block sucked, it was cheesy with a group of kids singing. Pac made it the way he did for a reason which IMO sounds way better. I remember when The Show soundtrack came out and I had bought it specifically because of that song and along with Redman, Methodman, and BoneThugz

Agree with this. Pac made the songs like he made them for a reason. There are some pretty good remixes, but not that many.

That's probably one of the most retarded things I've read here this year - that Better Dayz Remix of "My Block" is just straight wack, it's like saying Eminem's version of "Runnin" is better than the OG one. If there's one remix that sounds much better than the OG beat-wise it's "Still Ballin" - it would be perfect if they would use Kurupt's verses and not some bullshit ass Trick Daddy garbage that ruined the track.

The Dear Mama remix with Anthony Hamilton was really good, wouldn't go as far as better than the original but still excellent.

That remix was so well done, a whole nother beat and hook but the exact same overall vibe. If a lot of the tracks had been handled with this much attention the albums would've been dope. Instead we got Ashanti screeching on hooks and people like TI dropping verses...

I actually liked the remix of Don't Go To Sleep.  I know they took DPG and the outlawz off of it and replaced them with G-Unit, which sucked, but the beat and everything is nice.  I listen to the remix more than the OG version.

Well, that pretty much kills your credibility in this thread - "Pac's Life" sucks donkey dick just like "My Block", the OG ain't mindblowing but it's still miles ahead of those bullshit ass fruity loop remixes.

I don't disagree with your thread, I just disagree with the example you gave.  The Show Soundtrack is my favorite soundtrack and one of my favorite albums of all-time (has a lot of sentimental value for me as well from what I was going through the first year the album was out).

Not that I didn't like the "My Block" remix.  I liked it, but definitely not more than the original.  The beat on the original was so smooth and memorizing, it made for a perfect marriage with Pac's introspective lyrics.  I didn't mind the kids on the remake, I thought it gave a more hopeful portrayal of the song, with the kids representing the future generation, but still nothing can beat the O.G....

There are plenty of good examples of Pac remixes being better than the O.G.'s... here's some of the best examples and then some of the worst examples...

BEST EXAMPLES WHERE REMIX WAS BETTER THAN O.G.

1.  "Until The End Of Time" vs. "What's In Me That Got Me Acting So Crazy"
2.  "Changes" vs. O.G.
3.  "I Wonder If Heaven Got A Ghetto" vs. O.G.
4.  "Smile" Scarface album/video vs. "Smile" from Deathrow Greatest Hits
5.  "Hell for A Hustler"
6.  "Black Jesus" vs. O.G.
7.   "Friends"  vs. O.G.
8.   "This Ain't Livin" vs. O.G.
9.   "Last One's Left"   vs. O.G.
10.  "Thug's Mansion" from Nas God Son album vs. O.G.

...the list goes on and on.  What people don't realize is that THE SONGS WERE NEVER FINISHED TO BEGIN WITH.   They still had to go through sample clearance, post-production, and everything else, so you can't so easily claim that "they weren't the way Pac wanted them".

BAD EXAMPLES OF PAC REMIXES

1.  "Play Your Cards" with Kiesha Cole vs. "Play Your Cards" O.G. with Outlawz and Jodeci
2.  "My Block" on Better Dayz vs. "My Block" from The Show

The O.G. beat for "Friends" was weak, and the hook sucked... they cleaned that shit up and transformed it from a collection of raps to an actual song with melody....

"This Ain't Livin" they added that sort of church sounded echo effect of singing in the background to 2pac's verses which added to the depth of the track...

..."Hell 4 A Hustler" they made that shit Cinematic with the version from the Still I Rise album
